ive searched high and low for the alex calver remix (hard techno) its a white label i think , does anybody know?
Golkree
The boys were not to happy about the cover art nor the typo.
Siralune
This single was pretty lackluster. The Monsoon Mix should've been included in this one even though it was reissued on the 2002 version.

I used to sell rare dance records online for a living until discogs dispelled the myth of rarity whilst simultaneously making other rare records even more expensive.early on,around 2000/2001 I bought a collection of records from a guy from Glasgow who told me about the first time he ever heard Papua New Guinea.he said the entire population of the club just swarmed the decks to find out the name of this tune which seemed to come from the very heavens themself. He said 'nobody had heard anything like it,it was as if the roof had been blown off and the sky had opened and let in the cosmos'....'life would never be the same'

Weatherall mix is the one for me and deffo a great track :).
great ant
Never liked this - it’s just a blatant rip-off of the mighty , Radio Babylon , by Meat Beat Manifesto, which is an absolute banger - this, on the other hand is completely shit IMO.

Electrohound, so eloquently put. djxray, i'm really sorry that your brain doesn't jizz a tsunami of dopamine through your brain when you hear this tune like it does to millions of other people. For the record, both tunes deplete my dopamine and serotonin reserves in equal measures.
JUST DO IT
djxray Never liked this - it’s just a blatant rip-off of the mighty , Radio Babylon , by Meat Beat Manifesto, which is an absolute banger - this, on the other hand is completely shit IMO. That made me laugh. Best review I have read in ages.

Well, Radio Babylon's main structural beat was taken from a hip hop record and that from an old funk record. So, not clear to me why we're being precious about "blatant" and "rip-off" when that was common at that time -- sample at breakneck pace and see what weird combos can be created. Also, FSOL admitted they were and were open about sampling it. That was the point in a way for that period of music IMO, it was underground and people were doing whatever they could to push it forward, and maybe pay the bills. They weren't the only ones to sample MBM back then, either. And, of course, many folks sampled FSOL as well over the years. The genius of Papua New Guinea is they in turn created a very different feeling from some of the source material, by also throwing Dead Can Dance into the mix, slowing down the bass line, arranging it in a more drop out fluid molasses direction versus a sound system shakedown vibe, giving it an ambient expanse, and voila, translating some of Radio Babylon into a different wave. Does that mean it is completely original? No. No more than most artists borrow, steal and emulate all the time. That's including Jack Dangers, who borrowed, stole and emulated back then too. In any case, I don't begrudge the opinion. But "completely shit" seems a bit harsh simply because they sampled another artist. Without sampling, there would be no Radio Babylon.

Qube mix is exclusive to this release (and the 2003/2004 repress). A shame, it really completes the sequence of this 12", would be great to get another repress of this configuration of PNG. I don't have the 12", but it can be recreated digitally with the first two tracks coming from the UK CD single, and I made a cleaned up FLAC version of the Qube mix from a vinyl rip from online (which actually is slightly too fast) if anyone wants it.
Gardall
My copy of this record has two B side labels on it instead of A side and B side labels. Strange.
FRAY
This release includes the best mix in my opinion, The Qube mix. It's very beaty with an old skool 303 squelchy/acidy bass line. Expensive record these days but well worth it.

I'm only 29 and I'm certain this will be played at my funeral, I float away everytime I hear it.
Anaragelv
Possibly the best electronic track of all time. 25 years old and it still sounds more out there than anything i can think of!
Pedora
How do the tracks on these releases compare with the version on the Accelerator album? Worth buying?
Arakus
This is one of many electronic singles I came across when I first got into house and techno after seeing The Chemical Brothers & Andrew Weatherall in the summer of 1995. Absolutely beautiful tune, as someone else has pointed out there are many situations where it is the perfect track.
Ferne
While I love the original, the truly epic Weatheralll mix (complete with what sounds like a sample of a load of seagulls) is the one for me. Shame the vinyl version is a really shitty cut.
Majin
"Misprint with side A label in all black." ha ... they did it again ... got a copy of the original release (12TOT17) the same, as in no label ... guessing it was a regular occurrance, only most got weeded out before distribution and the odd one slipped thru ... with bigger releases, odds increased and this one had a big release ... remember getting my copy in my local Woolworths ... nice and cheap without train fare into London :-)
Anarahuginn
My version says 2004 on label.
Mavegelv
one of my favorites.
Uranneavo
A timeless house/goa classic, one of my favourite ever.To precise Puzl_Munkey's comment, the feminine voice you can heard at the beginning fo the track was sampled from Dead Can Dance's "Dawn Of The Iconoclast" (album "Within The Realm Of A Dying Sun"), it's played at different speeds.
Arryar
A stone cold classic. Also see 'Meat Beat Manifesto: Radio Babylon'

The Marco V mix is tripe. Using the vocal samples doesn't retain the original vibe. The original Jumpin and Pumpin pressing (unusually several mixes are good) is the only one worth buying.
Rayli
makes me laugh when people say say its so original and nothing else like it!!!were u not around a year or so earlier and heard radio babylon...good tracks but weatherall mix is the one
Xig
It's pretty funny actually, as FSOL is known to have sampled Radio Babylon in Papua New Guinea. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/nov06/articles/classictracks_1106.htm
GoodLike
Doesn't everyone wish they produced this record? This is the plastic that helped refine my love of dance music and paved the way for techno, hardcore and even drum & bass. Even the original mix by todays standard is absolutely incredible. If you don't know this, find the original mix on Youtube get a reasonable sound system outside during sunset in the summer and turn it up!

Pure class...

The Marco V remix is truly amazing. IMO, it is the best remix of this absolute classic that I have heard to date. It brings the original to a whole new level whilst maintaining its original vibe so well. The Satoshi Tomiie main path remix was pretty good too. It adds a bit more 'oomph' to the original.Great tracks, great vinyl.

"Papua New Guinea" is one of those very rare tracks that almost everyone of a certain age and temperament regards as sacred. When a tune is so beloved by so many people, who would dare to risk remixing it? Because you had better do a bloody good job.Answer: Hybrid. They were at the very peak of their breakbeat powers at the time this remix was commissioned, and they did not skimp on the sauce, they poured all their power into this and the result is easily one of Hybrid's best tunes of all time (if not *the* best), and arguably one of the best remixes of all time of anyone by anyone. Yes, it really is that good. They managed to remix one of the most sacred tunes in dancefloor history, with a perfect balance between faithful homage and radical overhaul, in which it was clear to see Hybrid's own great love and respect for the original shining through every tiny nuance of their sparkling production. Instead of merely updating Papua New Guinea for the 21st century, Hybrid made it truly timeless.Ten years on, I still play it out regularly, and it still fills dancefloors, even where none of the punters was yet born when the original came out... And its status as something extra special, even amongst Hybrid's stellar catalogue, is done no harm by the fact that it has never been released in a digital format. Only a short edit appears on the CD version of this release, and while almost everything else from Hybrid's backcat has had an MP3 re-release over the past few years, this one is always conspicuous by its absence. For now at least, this is vinyl only, and I'm keeping mine.
