In my possession is a three-track US promo (Fontana/Mercury CDP 518) - just the disc, no cover art - that has "Safe", "Love II", and "Shine On (The Second Mix)" on it. 1 2 3 is printed in the runout, which also has "W.O. 75849-1 CDP518 DISC MFG, INC (H)"

Alot of people say “A Spy In The House Of Love” is just a grouping of singles, B sides, and left over pieces from the cutting room floor. I think these folks should get past this attitude and take a serious listen. "Ray" picks you up and drops you down very comfortably and the "Love" series are almost too intense to comprehend. If you haven't experienced this music in your own head, through your own ears, you have really missed something special ... House Of Love has given voice to feelings and emotions that cause me to say, “Oh ya, I know that ...” it was just that I was never able to give words to those feelings before. It's an early morning wake up album for me, I can turn over, block out the sun and perhaps drift off into my own little world for a little while longer ... safe in my little world. You'll find everything you knew from their other albums in a calmer more precise manner, an indication of what Guy was going to do once he was out on his own. The guitars swirl and flow, blending and bending each song into the next with passion and grace. There is nothing strained here, only the full scope of the bands abilities. The vocals are strong and clear, with lyrical stories of introspection and a life well viewed. And being that this release is more restrained, that is no doubt the reason many of these songs were not used on other albums ... but then many groups follow that course, where they come up with great numbers that just don’t fit the contextual feel for a particular outing, yet find their way onto another release, one where they will stand out and be recognized for what they are ... and they are outstanding. So much psychedelic passion, something I never expected to hear ... and I’m happy that it’s all rolling though my head at this very moment.*** The Fun Facts: The album's title, like the name of the band, was taken from "A Spy in the House of Love" a novel by Anaïs Nin published in 1954. Alongside her other novels, "Ladders to Fire," "Children of the Albatross," "The Four-Chambered Heart" and "Seduction of the Minotaur," which were all first published in the United States between the 1940s and 1960s, "A Spy in the House of Love" was gathered into a collection of her novels known as Cities of the Interior. On the cover:-A dog in a polkadot scarf wearing classic frameless Ray Ban sunglasses ...-Anais Nin's book "A Spy In The House Of Love" ...-J.D. Salinger's book "The Catcher In The Rye" ...-Jean Paul Sartre's book Nausea ...-Vladimir Nabokov's book Lolita ...-A bottle of Monte Alban Regional De Oaxaca with Agave Worm ...-A glass of Monte Alban straight, no ice, and no worm ...-An open soft pack of Winston Cigarettes ...Review by Jenell Kesler

This isn't a compilation...
Tegore
That was exactly my thinking, really. It doesn't really matter though I suppose.

Well firstly, if it's a compilation it's still an album anyway, and secondly, your statement requires "it's not an album" to be a fact, and it's clearly just your opinion. You might be right, but there again you might not. As I said, I think this is a grey area, there's probably not a "correct" answer as such. No matter.

I would describe a gathering of tracks as an album. Unless they appear on other albums first, when it becomes a compilation. I don't see how there can be any other reliable definition......

Only a small number of b-sides and the rest are unreleased studio cuts. Cobbled together, sure, but as most of it is previously unheard material I have never seen it as a compilation. In reality it's probably a bit of a grey area but calling it a compilation is misleading in my opinion. Damn good record either way...

nboldock This isn't a compilation... What else would you call a gathering of b sides and non album tracks. It's not an album so it's a........
