Think JUNGLE TECHNO or thank TECHNO jungle it's all Mind To Mind . P.s. If you mix this with Set Up System- fairy Dust. You have then two sounds which never properly got replicated! To me Energy Flash and Mentasm are very similar to each other they both were released on the same era 1989-1991 . The materials used in that era were the same i agree some DJ/artists that were privileged enough to have new-pro materials were very rare in that time thus Joey Beltram is a great artist from it's time yes but sadly his pride was very short 1989-1995 . Both of the the music Energy Flash & Mentasm were on ever clubs in Europa and were always used in mixing many time together because they were easy to mix in .....same as those techno/minimal techno from Construct Rhythm Records and Fine Audio Records were very easy to mix together since they used the similar sounds , riffs, 303, etc.. Today in 2018 Energy Flash and Mentasm has dated badly ......maybe because i have listened to it too much or because there were other better tracks in that same era .

Each to there owns I guess but Mentasm for me still sends shivers through my brain... But I agree on Energy Flash. I didn't really warm to it back then and 1000% do not now! To cheesy quaver, bom bom bom bom repetitions for me snore zzz ;)

According to Renaat of R & S Records speaking on the Belgian music documentary The Sound Of Belgium below this paragraph. Paraphrasing the said interviewee a week later he makes Mentasm (after Energy Flash). And already widely known Mentasm was subsequently officially released in 1991. If that indeed is accurate, it is quite remarkable how revolutionary this sound was whatever one thinks of it, especially if Mentasm really was recorded in 1990. Can't comment about when Joey Beltram and Mundo Muzique recorded Mind To Mind, but it is equally an eternal trip heavy mind altering classic whenever it was made and takes most of its expression from deeper Nu Groove Records origins. It seems the user's comment which was initially posted of that Raindance/LTJ Bukem set supposedly from 1990 where Mind To Mind was featured, which we've recently been referring to and discussing, has now disappeared. Which now make our comments look like we're urinating against a rather strong north westerly breeze!

Agree. Although it's in the realms of possibility that R&S was giving acetates of Mind To Mind out, I do doubt it. I doubt it even further that they were giving them out to LTJ Bukem. On the other hand, Joey and Mundo were touring (visiting) Europe in 1990 including the UK. Joey was visiting techno / rave clubs such as Rage at Heaven (Rage was mainly a techno club back then by the way before the jungle took over) where the likes of DJs Fabio and Grooverider amongst others were playing and met Joey. Even so, it's doubtful that many people would have got hold of more than a few pre-releases at that time. It's more logical to assume they'd be concentrated around Joey's own US circle or DJs involved around the R&S/Belgium camp, surely.

Is that set 100% a 1990 set and not a 1991 set? There are a few tracks on there which are proper 1991 tracks and didn't see the light of day until 1991. Don't get me wrong, Bukem might've got hold of very early acetate copies at the time or played other DJs acetates. I went to a few of those earlier Raindance parties by the way. Can't remember the Bukem sets from 1990.

Well said mate. I would also love to see a docu that talks in depth about the new wave underground disco scene and how the Detroit/Chicago DJ's got influenced by this genre when they did their radio shows and gigs. And yes Joey Beltram needs a fresh new interview as he was integral to the new and up and coming scene. P.s. dont get me started on the French filtered non-sense!So if anyone is out there reading these comments and has the contacts please, please, please lets have a documentary that totally goes underground into the other world of electronic music. ;0

To be fair, there have been numerous documentary films on the German electronic scene. Particularly regarding Berlin and Tresor (which tends to be dominated by the boring minimal scene and trance). I'm more curious about the Frankfurt (Hardcore / Hard) Techno / PCP scene if anything. The Dutch techno, house and early hardcore scene prior to gabber would also be insightful. The French perspective would also be welcome as long as that awful french / filtered house was omitted - something I have no interest in whatsoever and is never part of the early developing rave scene as a whole. Canada and USA of course. The latter would be refreshing if it featured some of the late 1980s rougher/freestyle house and NYC techno artists/tunes. Chicago has been well documented now. Even something on the early-mid 1980s Amercan ELECTRO scene would make a change. There's never been anything in detail on the very early UK hardcore, techno and northern bleep techno scenes either. And perplexed why Frank De Wulf, Lhasa, Per Martisen etc weren't featured. Most importantly, this documentary didn't really showcase the wealth of the Belgian techno scene of that period at all really. Even the Joey Beltram interviews, mentions and releases on R & S Records were fleeting. The structure of the documentary, much like my review is disorganised mess. Quite disappointing when I think about it. It's not whether we are geeks or not. I think anyone with passion for the music and interest of the history should be well informed and educated of music's past not thrown a cheap bone of a film to clog their curiosity.

Yes nuttytech-know it missed a helluva lot but then again us geeky nerds need to consume everything in our paths. It would have been great to hear more exclusive interviews with such artists as Llhasa, Set Up System, Frank DeWulf and so many many more. I would love to see 7 more docu's too! The UK, US, DUTCH, CANADIAN, DANISH,FRENCH and GERMAN scenes and how they all became entertwined with the Belgium scene! I hope this comes to fruition at some point!

No worries. The documentary could have been compressed down to about a third of the time I reckon. Featured WAY too much commercial, unimportant, cheesy trash. Missed a big trick I'd say, in fact missed many, many good underground, more important tracks aswell. As far as Joey Beltram's concerned, I'd say his most revolutionary period certainly was from 1988 to 1991 pushing towards 1992 and 1993.

'Mind To Mind' is very early trance ... so early that the genre of trance even didn't exist ;-) ... a must have for the trance-lovers who want to dig deep in the genre of trance ...

History in the making.Fellow Junglists would agree.Not just that! All lovers of seriously good sounds! .Starter for ten? No a starter for lots of producers! Absolute classic! Ya ear! ;) Peace Ps straight off the bat! This delivers and changes everthing! So so important is this sound! :) Dark sounds that predicted the future....Darker drugs!... Darker times... I bought the reissue of this one a few weeks back. Actually I didn't expect so much from it. I remembered it from the 90ies and I toughed it was one of those classics that would be fun to have in the collection but I would never put on. I was quite wrong. Mentasm does sound a bit dated BUT Mind to Mind is a really really crazy tune and playing it loud from vinyl on a good stereo will melt your mind!

I remember hearing 'Mind To Mind' at around 4am one morning in Brixton Academy and it just sounded so awesome. Nowadays I settle for the headphone experience but that tune never fails to hit the sweet spot, so deeeeeep. Don't get me wrong, Mentasm was a great tune back in the day but it doesn't stand the test of time like 'Mind To Mind' does. Check it.

Si_Burton makes a very valid statement, Mentasm is simply awesome and legendary but Mind To Mind is Deep Techno at it's best, plus I love the Liz Torres vocal sample of 'No More Mind Games', awesome use of a vocal lick Mr. Beltram ;)
