Just bought an unsealed copy at Utrecht Record fair. Visual shit is there and I also immediately put them in paper sleeves. But sound quality is not impacted. Good price, was worth the risk and it paid off.

I bought this second hand at a record store. Unfortunately mine are etched by the plastic sleeves too like everyone else describes. It doesn't seem to have affected the sound quality (on mine at least). I promptly put them in different sleeves. I absolutely love the music and this box set though.

Luckily my copy don't have stains at all.... :-) When I bought it, I straight away stored those lp's in polylined sleeves.....

I bought this on release and recently listened to it again and my LPs are stained it whatever you call it now too.Sounds decent still but noise is now inherent.

For me "Nostradamus" was the most anticipated album of 2008 along with "Death Magnetic". And I have to say: Judas Priest lived up to my expectations! All 23 tracks are excellent, there is not one song that would cause disgust and other negative reaction. Even short interludes, which I usually do not like, especially in such quantities, do not irritate! (As, for example, it was with the Blind Guardian album "Nightfall In Middle-Earth").

I have the copy but stuck them in cardboared dust covers because the plastic covers stain. The records have never been played and just bought it becase i am a fan

Same problems with the Vinyls as you guys. Bought factory sealed, but the low-cost (no-cost) PVC reacted with the Vinyls. Mine are sounds not so well (1: not so bad 2: almost fine, 3: side B is terrible) (got popping and other noises) Could we claim for a change?

Yes the plastic sleeves they packed LP's in react chemically with the vinyl. It doesn't just "stain" the LP's. That's melt. Thus the surface noise you must certainly be hearing. The surface of your vinyl has been etched chemically. Whoever decided to wrap records in thick "water wings" type vinyl should be fired immediately and never allowed near LP's again.

When i bought the boxset from HMV and took it home i noticed after opening that they messed up with the sleeves. I changed them and put them in static free sleeves and they seem to be ok now. Though they have never been played. A freind had the same problem with record 3, it stained the record. So i told him to automaticaly change the sleeves or put thickish black paper at each side then the vynal will be protected.

I am not sure about the climate of this album now but It was lukewarm when it was released. I am listening to it now in 2014 and it sounds great to my ears. I have had it since release and It is aging well so far.

I found a sealed copy of this at my local Best Buy last year. The plastic sleeves that the LP's were packaged in discolored the vinyl. They have blotches all over them. They play just fine, which is all I care about, but was just curious if anyone else came across this problem?

I did like the Plastic that holds the vinyl left some crazy stuff residue but it plays good haha!

Yep mine too. Only disc three was unmarked. Again they play fine, but they do look s**t.

That happened to me to. It has to do with some chemical reaction between the LP and the "hard-plastic-pvc-inner-sleeve"Lucky for me only LP #3 was effected by this. So the first thing I did was to replace these hard-plastic with anti-static-sleeves for better protection.I tried even washing the effectede LP but no luck. But as some other has stated. This does not eddect the sound quality.

Likewise... Bought a sealed box a few months ago. The sleeves had sort of glued themselves to the discs. Glad to hear from you all that the discoloration doesn't affect the sound. (Haven't played my LPs out of fear that they will be unlistenable.)

I have this box set and the same thing happened to my set. I would replace those plastic sleeves with a different type so it won't continue doing what it is doing.

Same thing here... Purchased new sealed box on e-bay and when opened 2 of the discs were in same condition you described. Does not affect sound though...
