Ugh! No thanks. Not a fan of the remastered versions of their albums. Bloated, exaggerated bass, and sterilized top end. Only the original masters for me. I’ll pay a premium for it. It’s worth it.

reissues have no soul. they are just copies of the originals that we bought and loved all those years ago.with reissues you can go down to a record shop and buy it any time. same as you buy a loaf of bread or a bottle of milk. there's nothing special in a copy. collecting the originals requires time and effort. and the payoff is in having the real deal. not a copy.

Your absolutely correct! Vinyl has become the “hip new thing” and sellers are taking advantage of this resurgence! It’s going to kill the interest in vinyl for some because of pure Greed! I use to buy many Japanese pressings at a time and they where always extremely much better in condition than they where described. They usually where mint with the exception of them being played a few times. Most other VG or NM where more like “barely acceptable” when I bought from sources I usually don’t buy from.

I was a kid when it came out, so had not nothing to do with their past albums, apart some hits. Had it on tape and liked the whole album. 30 years later, although not much into guitars music, even a 90s grunge offspring, I consider this a very good album, worthy of an eventual reissue. The kind of music is sentimental and hard to argue on its quality, but i believe it is still accessible and easy to enjoy from a large range of music fans, not necessarily the band fans who might expected and wanted something else.

totally agree with you, dude. This is the best R.E.M. album, mainly because it is not a tipical R.EM. album. This is a bridge between very simple mainstream r'n r' album and lo-fi grunge a-la-R.E.M. .. One of my favourite of all time for peculiar grunge sound and melody songs

No lyrics, there's an insert with photos of the band on one side and credits on the other as pictured on Discogs.

Even Stipe is quoted as saying that most hated the album upon release but over the years regard it as a pretty solid effort.

Well I don't agree with tim24 that everyone hated this upon release, my friends and I loved it back then and this is a fantastic album and sounds excellent on vinyl now.

Can someone shed some light on why this is so expensive, considering you couldn't even pay a record store to take the CD off you? Everyone bought this album in 1994, and listened to it and hated it, so everyone tried to sell it. Even REM fans hate this album. (Personally, I love the band, and this album is one of my favorites)

I bought almost the entire discography for 60,00 € of an ebay seller roughly seven years ago...including copies of Monster, New Adventures, Up and Reveal. I thought it was a good deal at the time but I could not forsee this...Just wait for the repress and let that price bubble burst.

I've found that many major-label LPs from this era are pretty pricy simply because not many people were buying records at the time, opting for CDs instead--myself included. I have no idea what the exact numbers were, but because records bottomed out in terms of popularity in the mid to late 90s, labels, especially majors, were likely pressing very few of them. As for this album in particular, since it bombed by REM's standards, it was likely never repressed, making it that much more scarce and as a result, valuable.

My guess is format. You can get the CD anywhere, but not the LP. The median selling price is $66.72, so people are willing to pay to get it.

You answered your own question. In '94, everyone bought the album ON CD and then wanted to get rid of it. Back then only hardcore vinyl nuts were still buying new music on vinyl. Because of that fact, major labels printed a very limited number of copies on vinyl, making them instant collector's items. Albums that sold millions of copies on CD back then sold maybe 5,000 copies on vinyl. Now everyone loves vinyl, and this classic album hasn't been reissued yet, so people will pay beaucoup dollar for an original vinyl copy. Does that make sense?
