Text from the booklet:
Way back in time, in the early days of Rogue Trooper Records, an artist came along that diverted the label from the drum n bass route it was travelling. Jack Speed was that artist, and Sub-State were his band. Together Jack and the label were at the beginning of the happy hardcore boom that was beginning to take shape in 93/94. "Dark Love/Sweet Love" was his first release, but it was the slammin' "Take me up" which really heralded Jack`s arrival on the scene. Of course, things have moved on somewhat since those days, with happy hardcore enjoying more popularity now than ever before, and "Happy Trax" can make a serious claim as one of the biggest names in the scene... for instance, three Sub-State tracks here get magical reworkings from "Vibes & Wishdokta", "DJ Sy & Unknown" and Holland`s finest "Bass D & King Matthew". It`s all part of the label`s commitment to not only work with well known, established artists, but also with blood fresh new talent. It`s a ideal that is working well. "Boom!" is a good snapshot of the way the scene has progressed from it`s breakbeat dominated origins, through to the european-influenced sound where the kick drum now plays the all important role.
Tracks 3, 9 and 11 were originally published under the name Jack Speed.
