If there's one thing I have to say about Colin Benun's mastering works is: AMATEUR! .Getting his "Mastering" services, means paying money to trash your audio and release - simply as that! While Mastering is essential process since each track sounds different, with volume differences, dissonant frequency etc. it is also a very gentle process: If it doesn't being done properly, the audio is trashed for good. There is no Expander that open back the audio dynamics as they used to be and algorithm that can bring back the lost information of cut or over-compressed peaks. The sound is painful and tiring even in low volume and on big P.A. systems - a disaster! I have noted Draeke and the crew about this several times while we were working on this project. I even gave the technical and professional information that demonstrates clearly why this over-over-over compression of +12dBfs is BAD for any audio recording, but no-one listened/read this, because - "Hey - That's Colin Benun of OOOD"... and now that I read his comment again, I see that there's still no one to talk to. He still has no idea of what he's talking about in regards to Mastering (and also maybe his hearing has gone bye-bye, after too many Raves...)If you unable to hear the problems or at least understand the reason, then let someone who does (it's better to be someone who works with different types of music and done some time doing live-shows as well). Focus in what you awesome at - label managing, releases-production, marketing and distribution. Otherwise, release after release - ruined!.DRAEKE, GIZ, JOS, SOLI etc. - WAKE UP, GUYS!!

I have always been a huge fan of the track X-3 by Gangguru. Heavy bass, ominous sounds, and bright spiraling melodies combine to create a unique, dark, and magical track that stands out to me as a gem in the genre of goa trance.Knowing DAT Records' propensity for poor remastering (and commenting on it multiple times on their previous releases), I was curious what they would do to this track. The results are as I feared: DAT Records are still compressing their tracks and playing the "loudness" game. The original 12" release of X-3 had a powerful bass and wider dynamic range; there were quieter sounds that were in the background, giving the track more depth, atmosphere, refinement and focus. In the remastering here, the bass has been greatly reduced. At a modest listening volume, the bass seems almost non-existent (using reference speakers). Those sounds that used to be in the background are now much more in the foreground, giving it a brighter tone. All sounds are now of similar volume.I can only theorize about why some people, such as the owner of DAT Records, consider this sort of mastering an improvement, or "more modern" as they sometimes say. My guess is that perhaps they think it's more "psychedelic" to have all the sounds loud and in-your-face. Whatever it is, it's unfortunate for those of us who do not enjoy this effect and don't want to feel like victims of a psychedelic assault while listening to music. As is well known, this effect causes listening fatigue for many people, and headaches.Sadly, for tracks unreleased in the 90's, this is the best we might get. We might never get to hear them in their original glory. I think I would personally prefer an option to purchase the unmastered original tracks instead of the remastered versions.

It's always fun to read your reviews and the comments that always come with them. The Mind Rewind series, as you might know, is curated by a collective of people and in the mastering field we have more than one person checking the result and working together with the mastering studio. This release has been mastered by Colin OOOD which is very well aware of the compression limits, the loudness war discussions and certainly doesn't do any of the things you have described, such as maximise all to have everything at the same volume. Your judgement, I think, is just basically to bash our work and because you truly just want to have the tracks, un-mastered and from DAT, no matter who works on them, you never seem to like ANY sort of mastering on them. There is no option to buy unreleased tracks untouched, that is not professional and no artist would agree to that. The studio mixes found on dat tapes need to be polished and tuned to be presented to today listeners. You might as well search for a time machine, go back to 96 and stay there, listening to the tracks when they were just not finished and not mastered. Cheers

If you "demonize" and "insult" someone else but can't take it, that my friend is your own problem.
Geny
Yes I do have professional headphones, and no, a volume control does not reverse the effects of dynamic range compression. I'm sorry you don't like my negative feedback but the solution is not to demonize and insult me.
watchman
Obviously you don't have professional headphones considering they came without a volume control. Why would I care about the things you care about? If I did, I would look like as big of a baby as you do currently. "WA WA WA, THE MUSIC IS GIVING ME A HEADACHE!!!! FUCK YOU DRAEKE"- ArticunoAlso what's with the "Binny" part? I don't know if that was meant to be edgy, but it sure was.
Nuadazius
Maybe if you bought some real professional headphones or speakers you'd be able to hear the music you're listening to, and you would care about the things that I care about, "Binny".

Hope DAT Records won't listen to your sad will in letting the old poor quality, none added value ; it is awful to listen to on my ADAM A8X. Hope DAT Records will follow their way in giving a new youngness to Amazing tracks that need to be remastered to give their full value & full power ; to be used in nowaday's mix ! Let the place to The (Real) Quality !If You don't agree, I think You should buy new speakers otherwise if it doesn't work, new ears as well ! Cheers !!! =)
Quamar
Why the fuck do you complain about everything? You're talking shit because the music is too loud? Really dude, you need to make better points than that, they made a volume control and bass control for a reason I guess some of them might be mongoloid proof, Right? I'm using some garbage gaming headphones that have slight bass control and it sounds almost like the original. And Headaches? You're the first person I have ever heard to get headaches from music like this, if that's the case and you know that you and other people get headaches, you should probably not buy music such as this(but you will cause you're a rebellious 30 year old acting like a 18 year old). Honestly man, you should just be glad that there are people who still care about the genre considering it's basically dead and milked nowI swer on me mum you have some personal vendetta towards DAT or something since you witch hunt every comment or DAT records release that you don't like, you just need to chill out.You also reviewed one song out of the whole thing, reviewing one song out of a whole album you didn't like isn't going to help anything or anyone.

Awesome Tracks & Super Clean Quality ! What a Pleasure !!! :D LIVELY RECOMMENDED to All Old School GOALOVERS !!! ;)
Abywis
What does "Super Clean Quality " suppose to mean? This is digitally produced music. There is no background noise or acoustic leakage etc. Just directly connected synths and samplers or software generated lines.
