Best of Tapestry + a few others rather a shame when so many gems could have been included but hey ho

There's no more important or influential figure in rock than Carole King. In one of the great cultural flowerings of the last century, she was a key player in taking rock from its simple beginnings to its 70s heights. In the process, she reinvented herself from hardworking but anonymous assembly-line hitmaker to pop superstar. So yeah, a collection of her 60s demos? A no-brainer, pretty much. It's nice to have both sides of her output represented. Her runthroughs of early rock and roll classics like "Take Good Care of My Baby" and "Crying In The Rain" amount to audio directives to the subsequent artists and producers who'd make them hits. (The latter features Carole doubling her own harmonies.) And nascent versions of her 'Tapestry' hits like "It's Too Late" and "Natural Woman" remind us oldsters of the days when the groundbreaking singer-songwriter ruled the airwaves. It's ALL great, but the highlight has to be Carole's version of the Monkees' smash "Pleasant Valley Sunday." Essential stuff.
