Viashal
Dillinger's members were from Quebec and Ontario Canada, and formed by brothers Robert Harrison (drums, vocals) and Jacques Harrison (keyboards, flute, sax, vocals) in Toronto 1973. This, their 2nd and final album was recorded between studios in Michigan and Toronto 1975/76.The Toronto sessions were engineered by Terry Brown, who worked with many other well known Canadian bands during the 70's including Rush, Max Webster and Klaatu to name a few.The music found here is basically hard prog/space rock, with some great playing. Nice lead guitar, organ, and mellotron, at times bringing to mind Nektar or Camel. The rhythm guitar reminds me very much of the Canadian band Foot in Cold Water. The highlight for me has to be the epic "Munchkin Men", with it's progressive elements; swirling Hammond organ, dreamy flutes, and lengthy guitar solos.Dillinger also do a couple of covers; "Taxman", where the band takes a much different approach to the classic Beatles number, and the Spooky Tooth song "Two Time Love", from that bands 'The Mirror' LP.The cover-art was a magnified artists rendition of the THC molecule. After this album, drummer Robert Harrison returned to his home in Quebec and joined the band Offenbach. Paul Kersey, ex-Max Webster came in as his replacement and the band went for a slightly less progressive sound, with more emphasis on hard rock. Amidst recording what was to be the 3rd Dillinger album, they then changed their name to The Hunt, resulting in the 1977 debut self titled album by 'The Hunt'. Rumour has it their name was derived from manager at the time Cliff Hunt.I've added my Dillinger YouTube video here at Discogs, which features one of my favourite songs from this album "Munchkin Men'. The images used within my video are taken from photos of my personal vinyl LP jacket/cover/labels. The audio is also sourced from my vinyl. The video can be found on the Discogs release page for this LP. Thanks.
