Larosa
The different forms of psytrance have always been a collection of techniques cannibalised off of other electronic dance music genres, but who would have expected it to incorporate Drum and Bass? Yet that is exactly what happened here... Since most psytrance is very clean and rhythmically straight I was expecting something along the lines of psychedelic intelligent drum and bass, but it became a marriage of full-on/dark psytrance melodies and scapes with what can only be described as the drums and basses of the old school virus releases (think ed rush & optical). And you know what? It works... I honestly can't say I don't like this album, because I do, there aren't any bad tracks to speak of, it is all very well produced, with decent catchy tunes all over the place. The only thing preventing me from giving it a 5/5 rating is the fact that it is still pretty derivative music, there is nothing new happening here, we heard it all before, just not together, and in my honest opinion the sum of the parts is not better than the parts separately. That said, I still feel this deserved a release on a big name psytrance/DnB label much MUCH more than the awfully derivative crap most of them are putting on the market these days...
