While both versions of 'The Prophet' presented in this release rather are to be considered remixes of CJ Bolland's track 'The Prophet' as released on Internal in 1996, 'Tomorrowland' heavily draws on the melody of Lunatic Asylum's 1993-released track 'The Meltdown'. As such both tracks take the melodies of their underlying originals to a higher level. In this respect 'Tomorrowland' deploys the melody of 'The Meltdown' to a greater effect as it appears to be more coherent and supported by an enhancing bassline and a greater variety of echo's and additional synths. This way 'Tomorrowland' follows a more classic approach towards trance than 'The Meltdown' and is characterized by both a more complex and more mellow appearance. In a similar fashion both versions of 'The Prophet' presented on this release take on a more sophisticated form as compared to the original. While making use of the same synth line CJ Bolland cut up the melody into smaller chunks and added more synth layers on top of it creating a somewhat orchestral notion. Nevertheless the track(s) loose(s) some of the energy conveyed in the original version since the tempo is reduced in speed and the build-up is too narrow to create an equally overwhelming feel as the original. The lack of the Jesus speech as sampled in the original version further contributes to this loss of power in the two versions presented here. At the end of the day this release delivers two interesting interpretations of two well-known trance classics and it's equally interesting that CJ Bolland lent his 'The Prophet' - although in a variated form - to Marc Acardipane. I would love to know the story behind this 'favour'.
Tomorrowland is an absolute masterpiece.I first heard it in Marc Spoon's dj set back in '97.It was a killer then, and is a killer now. I like to speed it up a little bit, to about 143 BPM, so it's even more trancey :)It's a must for every hard trance enthusiast or just a fan of good old classics.
