Although this album takes little of it's reference points from contemporary modern music, it still manages to sound fresh and vibrant, it's funky soul full of Dub-Rock variety. The most obvious influence on their sound seems to come from CAN, although VELVET UNDERGROUND-isms abound. Where groups like DUNKELZIFFER suffice themselves with a dusty backroom sound, these young pretenders reach forward to the point where they begin to sound original. That jungle-Funk approach made famous by CAN is very forward in this sound, and your nostrils twitch as if smelling the pachouli-steeped atmosphere, but there's hook-a-plenty and you find yer mind spliced into their audio world with disquieting ease. I hated the fuck-awful cover however, which frankly put me off venturing into the actual music for a long time. This album creates a nice contrast between light images and dark rhythms. Power to them. Less zeitgeist than Liebzeit.
