A lot of vaporwave is over-hyped, and a lot of it plain sucks. The problem is a lack of depth (even irony can have depth, of course), wherein such releases neither promise longterm rewards nor encourage critical listening; they're just not thoughtful or sensitive or creative enough. This is not one of those releases. Although a limited range of samples are used here (including extensive use of stock Chinese ad placements), it's how the artist applies them that makes this album repeatedly inventive and catchy-sounding.
