Notes

Boston Tea Party, January 10, 1969.

Rare VU live photo on front cover. Speed is too fast on side 1. Tracklisting is inaccurate: there's actually no "Sister Ray" as the first trace of the B side and "Heroin" is misspelled as "Herion".

Difficult to excuse the shoddy nature of this boot. Seems like no one listened to it before it was pressed. Some bootleggers don't give a monkeys. As noted - tracks are horribly sped up on side 1. If you've got a varispeed turntable you can correct it yourself I suppose. Tracklisting is wrong as well (no Sister Ray). In the '80s I used to buy any boots by the VU on sight... got quite a few really good ones like 1968 Live, Black Banana, Sweet Sister Ray, Evil Mothers, Black Side Of the Street, Live At End Cole and a few others. It was exciting in those days seeking them out in 2nd hand shops and record fairs. They weren't very expensive either. It was a good time to buy them. This was a big let down due to the speed error and I rarely played it.My advice to fans of the VU - get the 45th anniversary set of the third album - the 6cd super deluxe version. Take a listen to discs 5 & 6 for simply the best ever live VU recordings... live at the Matrix San Francisco in nigh-on perfect sound. It even knocks 1969 Live into a cocked hat. And there is more to come in 2015 ,apparently.

The Super Deluxe 3rd album is now superceded by the Matrix Tapes 4 cd set. So - if you are on a limited budget get that instead.I think they probably pressed a few thousand of these BTP boots. And there's probably a few different versions as well. Shame they didn't do a better job, surely a quick listen to the tape would've shown up the wrong speed issue? Not one I often play :/

Hi BradxI bought this in 1988 and it wasn't very expensive. It was a huge let down to me too, my friends thought it was hillarious I wasted my money on this and I rarely played it either.I got a varispeed turntable in 2003, 28-9rpm seems to do it. And whilst the quality is appaulling, as a document of the time it is fab. an interesting piece of Velvet and music business history. If the median is £23.42 I am very happy with my investment.Any idea how many were pressed? Thanks for your advice will look out for the 45th anniversary set of the third album - the 6cd super deluxe version.Good listening. jjj
