The second Alum is much better than the first, more melodic and emotional, this one is filled with life, energy, colors, fast trips. excellent release!

This is the second album from RMB and it seems that the second album is a difficult task for the majority of artists, especially if you have establish a name and a style in the music industry. This crossroad appears here, since we are in the post rave era where tracks are more slow, boring and softer. This album is not bad, although it's a lot different from This world is yours. It's logical because it comes in 1998 where the rave era was over. Some tracks remind this era (Spring, Baraka) while others are a mixture of ambient, breakbeat and trance and some are just cd fillers (No women no kids, Rhythm desease, Madman's legend, No friend). I don't understand the extended number of tracks, since some of them look incomplete, for example there is another version of Baraka in a Mayday compilation far better than this....radio version??. Perhaps RMB wanted to give us tracks with different style and length. In my opinion the tracks here should have stopped in number 13. Anyway, the truth is that this duo had potentials and this was proved throughout the years. Try to listen to all RMB tracks in order to have a complete image about the legacy that those guys left behind. And about this album, a final judgement. Could have been better.
JUST DO IT
Maybe the extended number of tracks and shorter versions were supposed to give a feeling of a DJ(?)-album? Many of the tracks towards the end show us that RMB aimed at a different direction of style they chose for themselves, as their following releases also contained breakbeat tracks. Howerver, I think "No Women No Kids" is still cool and even Farid called "Fatal Illusion" as his personal favourite track of this album in a radio interview ;-).

Nice album with many tracks in different styles, some very ambient, some rave tracks (spring, reality, break the silence, everything (the rise), of which the first three songs are among the best tracks of the album) and lots of breakbeat and chemical beat orientated tracks. It shows that RMB are capable of producing in a large variety of electronic styles. Despite this, my cryticism on this album are that some tracks do not seem to be propperly finished (everything (all three versions), uprising, no woman no kids, while these tracks have so much potential. Even worse, some tracks just sound like cd-fillers (unreality, baraka, rythm disease). To bad not more of the brilliant tracks like spring and reality, in which they show what they are really good at, are on this album. I appriciate RMB's journey through different styles, but it could have been a brilliant album, where it not that they tried to be too 'widescreen' and put too many songs on the one disc. Good, but not excellent.
