[Review of 2 x LP vinyl edition] ...this is growing on me....slowly....it's very different from previous GA releases and a lot of it sounds very post punk/new wave/early 80's to me....puts me in mind of Joy Division a bit (ironically, particularly the track 'Warsaw'...perhaps this was intended...?)....I can even hear bits of Bronski Beat's 'Smalltown Boy' in the chord progressions on the last track 'History'. Side D is definitely my favourite ('Shameless'; 'Time and Space'; 'History')...it's more like the GA of old....but that's just my personal preference. Nicely packaged...I do like it when labels bother to design proper inner sleeves for the LP version (so many don't bother now days). Nice pressing; sounds good on my Pro-ject Debut Carbon. 'Goodbye Country (Hello Nightclub)' is still my fave by far though...closely followed by 'Lovebox', then 'Vertigo'...never got into 'Soundboy Rock' much. For those expecting GA of the 90's/00's, think again....it's not a bad album though.

I liked this when it came out. The track with Ferry is great.

Groove Armada sail once again with BLACK LIGHT, kicking things off with the rock-heavy electro chant of "Warsaw." The album as a whole feels drenched in 80s nostalgia, with "History" harking back to the nu romantics R&B era. "Cards to Your Heart" and "Paper Romance" both have that stadium, anthemic feel, while the smooth "Shameless" features Brian Ferry at his smoothest. The predominant mood here, however, is definitely upbeat rock -- it drives through the majority of the tracks. This is an unexpected direction for the Armada boys, though not entirely unwelcome, as it injects a blast of energy into their work -- guitars and all! "Time & Space" thrums with it, while "Fall Silent" uses the rock for a more contemplative mood (though, in the end, "Just For Tonight" sounds too similar to it). Raise your lighter to the sky!

Great album, somehow it grows in you as you hear it on and on...much better album that their previous work and completely different style from the old GA.Although it feels kind of lineal and safe you can feel a different rhythm in every song, really like the Depeche Mode style on "History".Great album for me! :)

This is the latest release from the guys of the Groove Armada duo. I don't know why I think this, but the previous releases were a lot more attractive compared to this. I think the duo lost some of their experimental ideas as they could show on "Goodbye Country", "Lovebox" and "Soundboy Rock". Nevermind the bad sides, tracks like "Just For Tonight", "History" and "Paper Romance" will be classics one day, "I Won't Kneel" got the soul and a vast feeling, I sing it all the time without noticing it. One thing at least Groove Armada, try to find a new graphic artist for the next release. Poor printer for all the lost black colour. I detest the artwork, but that is not the point. "Black Light" is an enjoyable album all in all.
