Other than the one copy of Def Engine that I purchased as new when it first came out in '96, I have never seen any another copies of it anywhere in the US. I doubt very many copies of this release ever got shipped to the states. Which is really not all that surprising since it's mostly pretty average sounding house music. However, the final cut (B2) on thisthree tracker is a gem. It's titled "The Move Club" and it's quite an amazing tune. The track starts out very simple with a minimalistic approach. The hat's are hisseyand the overall feel is very raw yet effectively hypnotic and it draws you right in and keeps you there as it slowly builds up. Then when the first breakdown arrives the beat stops all together and is replaced with some pulsing choppy filter stab's that are oozing with anticipation. Then as the breakdown itself begins to break-down, and a muffledsounding sample of an MC cut's in and proclaims something that is totally unintelligible and then wham! A thundering break beat slams in, the sort of which could have only been lifted directly from some classic old school (peak era '91 - '92) UK hardcore production. A few blissful measures of that before the track down shift's back to a more primitive house direction that it started out on. You really have to hear this tune yourself to understand the dynamics of it and why it's so effective on the dance floor andespecially on a big club system where it can best be judged in all it's glory and "Def-ness".With a quality scale of 1 to 10 I would rate this release at 8.5 solely on the meritof that one track. Grip now while it's still cheap!
