Does anyone else have a copy that has the word "ass" near the end of the song censored? It doesn't sound like a skip in the vinyl it sounds like the word just drops out of the mix. Anyone?

Can anyone verify that the U.S. release of "Gett Off" in 7" single format included a picture sleeve? I've never seen one for sale and most of the Prince U.S. singles around this time just shipped in plain white or WB company sleeves. I know European releases included picture sleeves but I'm curious about U.S. Thanks!

The 'Gett Off' maxi-single is fantastic. Gett off was the song that signaled Prince's new sound at the time, which led to a comeback for him on top 40 radio & the clubs. The song itself is one of the most satisfying hits Prince has ever had in his career, and the maxi single further expands on that. The extended remix sees Prince rapping and experimenting with production techniques that were popular in the early 90's, including samples and breaks. Although this might make it sound dated, it still surprisingly holds up very well to this day. What really makes this Maxi-single a must have are the remixes. The 'Houstyle' mix is fantastic and THE standout remix in my opinion. This one brings the song into more of a lounge/laid back atmosphere, but still has the great energy that can be found in the original single mix. It clocks at 8:19, which might sound long, but believe me, there isn't a dull moment in this mix. The production is top notch on this one, with Prince perfectly executing the 90's sound. 'Violet The Organ Grinder' samples the main 'Gett Off' beat, with only some slight variation in the production. The chorus on this one is catchy, and the orchestral segments are nice. The 'Flutestramental' is cool, while 'Gangster Glam' and 'Clockin' The Jizz' are fun variations on the original version of the tune. All in all, it's a fantastic Maxi-Single, one that every fan should own in their collection.

In true Prince form, the A-side "Gett Off" (spelled with two t's because the B-side to "New Power Generation" a few years earlier was called "Get Off") was Prince's "gift" to the club community, being released only to D.J.'s and clubs on Prince's birthday that year and not being serviced to pop or R&B radio. Nevertheless, the single went gold (1,000,000+ copies for a single at the time) and made it up to #23 on Billboard's Hot 100 from sales and 'bootleg' airplay alone. Despite all that, the real kick-ass track here is the B-side, "Horny Pony." "Horny Pony" was rumoured to be the first song that Prince and his then new band (the New Power Generation) cut together and you can tell by the way Prince and Rosie (Gaines) play off each other that the whole group clicked from the get go.
