Great remaster, the drums are much more detailed, bass is punchy and the keys are spacious. However, the clarity works to the detriment of the overall keyboard sound and guitar tone, revealing their inherent flaws in the process. Definitely worth getting, and the included lyrics booklet is a great boon, with some tracks having additional notes to link them better to the overall saga.

Mavegelv

Classic album from the undisputed kings of Howardian/Lovecraftian symphonic black metal. However, this vinyl pressing leaves considerable amounts to be desired. There's a pretty decent amount of distortion near the end of each side, as a result of the volume of the cut mixed with the sheer amount of material on each side. Some groove post-echo is audible as well (previous vocals are slightly audible in the right channel). Even though they removed a track from this pressing (The Ravening), it really would have been best as a 2LP. Great to have if you're a fan, but don't expect wonders from the sound.Thankfully, Cacophonous Records has a 2LP remaster/repress up for preorder at the time of this writing (with the others in this legendary first trilogy of albums to follow), which should alleviate all issues with this original pressing. Collectors aside, that should render this pressing obsolete.
