"Fortified with 7 very rare Bob Seger songs". If you are only familiar with Seger's '70s output you may be as underwhelmed as I was - initially - at the prospect of 7 'very rare' Bob Seger songs. However - Bob's '60s tracks are all brilliant examples of the garage punk ouevre. When I first heard Heavy Music I couldn't believe how brilliant it is... real Detroit pounding rock n' roll in the class of the MC5 and SRC. East Side Story is another winner ... ok, it's a kind of Gloria rewrite.... but man, what a carve up. Real story-telling in the lyrics as well. Seger was a genius during this period cranking out regional hit after hit - but he couldn't make it onto the natonal charts. Heavy Music was the nearest - but the distributor went bust and it fizzled. Damn. There's a coupe of Seger's novelty songs on this - but they're good too... including his Dylan cash-in (Persecution Smith), his anti-smoking diatribe (Chain Smokin'), a xmas song and even a weird anti-draft dodger thing as well (the Beach Bums was another Seger vehicle). Man this cat could write a song about anything.I don't blame Seger for making whatever it is he made during the '70s. He deserved all the fame and money he could handle - just for writing Heavy Music, which I believe he still encored with well into the '70s and possibly '80s. Maybe he still does - I must admit I'm not an expert on the Silver Bullet years.Strange to have Iggy on the front cover of this record. Even though he was from the motor city - he's not actually on the record.

no iggy +/- the stooges since this was a local comp and the stooges never had a local single before the first album. thats my guess anyway.

They could have dumped 'what's on your mind' for a Iggy track. It's a fun little track but it's one of the weakest Terry Knight Pack tracks. Seger had stellar output in the 70s. Don't get too caught up in his success. If you enjoy the garage stuff make sure you check out his first album on Capitol records, 'ramblin gamblin man', a nice segue into the Lucifer period from the acid tones.

'wazoo' in ann arbor used to have these by the crate-full. you'd see a serial # on one in the bin, then return a couple weeks later and see a higher # serial number. This is an essential local comp. beware of flea-bay ones which have the serial # box blurred out.
Nafyn
this was back in the late 80's to early 90's.

Pleas tellme more
Zargelynd
was also released on vinyl

I bought mine in Portland in 2016 and it sounds great. The numbered box on the back is blank, not blurred out. Also, it lists side 3 twice. Bootleg?
