I was quite dissapointed with Hospital Mix 5. The tracklist is full of great tunes such as Makoto's remix of Rewind and Missing Link, however there's simply too many songs. With 30 songs over just 60 minutes it sounds very rushed as the tunes being played get very short playtime before Tony mixes the next track in. Apart from the rushed mixing, the great tracklist is also at times let down by poor mixing. There are some awkward switches and double drops that don't sound good. It lacks flow. Not sure what Tony was thinking when he dropped Missing Link into Green Screen, for example. I do realize that constructing and performing a mix is not the easiest thing to do, especially when you're mixing 30 tunes in one hour, but I expected more from a man who has been in the game for over 15 years. All in all, great tracks let down by a mix that don't do them justice. 2/5.

61 mins x 30 tracks is like a 'Stars on 45' for Drum & Bass. Its just too many tracks in the mix and I feel that many tracks dont get a chance to breathe in this mix. Why cram so many in?

New to this genre, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the promotional information said this compilation was “for new fans as an entry level introduction” to drum and bass. This is the fifth instalment of the annual Hospital mix, with turntable duties taken up by Tony Colman, better known as London Elektricity. With nearly a decade long music career under his belt, this CD really does show his professionalism as a producer and DJ. Although he combines 30 tracks into one slamming 61 minute mix, it is more important to note that there is not one bad track on the disk. Every tune is a quality one, aided with great mixing where you can barely distinguish where each track mixes into the next. The CD features many of the regular Hospital crew, including Nu:Tone, Logistics, Q-Project, Cyantific and London Elektricity himself, whilst also including many exclusive tracks. The sound is frantic, peppered with a few vocal cuts and some utterly awesome basslines. Brilliant!
