Was it a 'mix-stake' to keep the guitars off? ;) What was the reasoning? It would seem a mistake as why would they put guitars on when merging with big label? Like his Keyboards are ok but they aren't revolutionary or anything. I even notice with some live performances that the guitar is low in the mix as well and keys are just right in your face. Sure I get he's the leader but that's a bit extreme for my taste, especially since he's no Richard Holmes.

I have two copies of this with the large B & C label, and textured or rough label. I can tell you that they are identical except that one of the vinyls is thicker than the other...so this puts a new twiston the identification of which one is a first and which is a second run of pressings....

I have a version where A3 and A4 are interchanged with B3 and B4.

This is an 'Organ Only' version if anyone was wondering.

The incipient incarnation of Atomic Rooster with Vincent Crane (organ/vocals), Nick Graham (vocals/bass), and Carl Palmer (drums) was together just long enough to document its 1970 debut. Prior to the last-minute addition of Graham-- the only bassist Atomic Rooster ever had -- the band emerged from the remnants of the then recently defunct Crazy World of Arthur Brown. The material was primarily courtesy of Crane and consisted of heavy and versatile sides. The versatility is evident throughout the impressive array of styles ranging from the folk-inspired pastoral songs via bluesy horn arrangement and contrasting driving rockers and jazzy spells. Lyrically, Crane reveals his penchant for dark imagery. Support at the time was bolstered by strong live appearances, positive word-of-mouth, and significant BBC Radio sessions.

Buying this is certain to cause confusion. Most copies of these are the remixed version with additional guitar and vocals from John Du Cann, but that's not the original. Yes, it's still B&C label and same catalog number, and the back cover is exactly the same on both versions, but the true original has a larger B&C logo on the label and the label is textured (that's funny, I swore this version had some of the songs switched around, I believe I did see a version on eBay with some of the songs swiped, like their cover of John Mayall's "Broken Wings" being on side two rather than side one). Even the remixed version will mention Vincent Crane, Nick Graham, and Carl Palmer, but no mention of newly added-on guitar and vocals from John Du Cann. You'll also know whether you have the original or not, is if Nick Graham is doing almost all the vocals, without any vocals from Du Cann (I suspect it was Vicent Crane doing the vocals to "Winter"), and there is almost no guitar. The remixed version was intended for U.S. release, but no U.S. record company showed interest in it (apparently not even Elektra). The remixed version instead was the one imported to the States (to the few record stores in the States at the time who were stocking imports in 1970, as I doubt too many American record stores were stocking imports much earlier than 1969). Actually I can understand why the album was remixed. The remixed version has more power and energy, additional guitar really helped big time, and just about anyone who heard both versions can agree, the remixed one is superior. For newbies, you're most likely have heard only the remixed, as that's most likely the version used for the various CD reissues.

Shouldn't this release rather named as "Atomic Roooster", just wondering..
