I really can't recommend this to anyone but a completist; I'm a huge fan myself, but even I have limitations. It makes sense to me that I don't like this comp, considering it's material Prince wrote WITH and FOR other people; to me, with most of the work Prince does with other people he tends to try way too hard. Take the first track, Minneapolis, a dancey NPG off-shoot meant (in my eyes) solely to be a one-time release by 'MPLS'. With that said, it could've easily fit into the NPG catalogue or something. Could've done without the reprise though. When I first heard Love Sign on Crystal Ball I thought it was the original (it's just a remix); I have to say I prefer the remix over this heap of beats with the opening 'poppoppopgothepistolbangbangbanggothegun' that irks me something fierce. The remix, I think, clearly idealizes what Prince wanted to do, without sounding messy and bland at the same time. Mayte's version of 'If I Love U Tonight' isn't that bad, I don't mind listening to it on occasion; she has a great voice, and the music compliments her very well. The three tracks I mentioned were more or less the only pieces I really looked forward to hearing; I really can't get into the rest of the material.
