The spanish wonder prodcuer is back with a new 12" on Cmyk Musik, a label he is heavily involved with as a manager as well as one of its most productive producers. I must admit I feel slightly let down by Azul Terio as a whole, despite the fact it has most of A. Under's trademark tricks and treats all in tact. I don't know, I guess I've come to expect more from this guy. Take Azul Terio Carnal for example: it has the super catchy little melody which playfully crawls throughout the track and has just about an endless universe of other things simultaneously going on, but it all just does not add up to the same result as on, let's, say Distantes or Trapezones Erectos... In fact, Azul Terio Carnal, like the other two tracks, all play the hypnotic card, which has thus far always been one of the main and juiciest ingredients in Alex's productions, but now just fails, to my dismay. Azil Terio Postureo has some horrific vocals throughout that may just sound like Ricardo Villalobos chanting an Offspring hit while having a bad heroin trip. Not even the fairly competent melody can save the track from getting tagged as skip material in my grade book. The last track, Azul Terio Cerebral may be just that- cerebral, as it makes my grey matter pale. Is this Alex Under doing a generic lounge bar house track? No harm or disrespect intended to the genre or its followers, but the otherwise interesting melody arrangement gets layed over a horrendously boring and recycled kick and bass line. And it goes on like that for approximately six minutes. Er, not good, very far from it too. To conclude, this sounds like Alex Under making baby steps and not like the work of a producer who is getting world wide praise as one of the most promising and perspective figures within the realms of contemporary electronic music. Put some muscle into it, will you now Alex?
