Pretty much Wax Doctor's peak and a brilliant record. Manages to balance jazzy elegance with a big enough bottom end to keep it street tough. Kid Caprice is a well loved classic, a great distinctive break and simple but perfect structure. A bit like a funkier more danceable version of some of Photek's cool ambient jazz outings but when that famous break rattles in you just want to freak out. Lovely chiming electric piano notes and wine bar synths come in and it could all go horribly wrong but that furious clattering beat keeps up the momentum. It has a nice sense of pace with brief lulls to introduce another element rather than just plodding along like so much jazzstep. This gives it an almost symphonic element a bit like Bad Company's later Colonies, although a lot less scary than that track!I Like the flip even more. The Rise has a flickering groove, fusiony synths and a cooing vocal but it is the colossal bass bombs that make this tune. Pointless on headphones or tiny speakers you need something that shakes the room to get these two tunes. Very simple but that is what makes it work so well, it is genuine "drum and bass".Frank @ London School of Sound
