On Meet Your Demons has achieved its goal: he is saxophonist Yuri Honing in his own rock band. The way it was, with hindsight, carefully mapped out. It started with the albums Star Tracks and Sequel in which he played in a jazz-pop classics interpretation. With the Metropole Orchestra he took Paranoid Android by Radiohead on. There was, of course, his project Wired Paradise. Thereupon he let Tony Overwater on bass guitar play and Joost Lijbaart solid rock rhythms. The most surprising, however, was the addition of avant-garde guitarist Frank Möbus. To top piece has Honey now enlisted guitarist Paul Jan Bakker, known by Anouk and Kane. That makes Meet Your Demons to a sturdy and hard sounding album. Think for example of the saxsolo's by Courtney Pine at Mick Jagger or to Sonny Rollins on the Stones album Tattoo You. But of course, Yuri Honing itself, with its solid sound and intelligent lines infused with blues and a touch of Oriental mysticism. Meet Your Demons knows less subtlety than the previous Wired Paradise-cd, but the music is solid as a rock.
