Based on exact programming, each medley and the sequence of four per-side, Joy To The World equals 1946's 4-45rpm disc book, Christmas Hymns and Carols. Christmas Hymns and Carols, Volume II (Lm-1711) equals the 1952 release, and (5 children-youth carolling) Christmas Hymns and Carols is the new one, of 1957 (Lm-2139).

A lot of confusion exists concerning release dates. Robert Shaw recorded 5 christmas albums with RCA and then 5 christmas albums with the Atlanta Symphony orchestra, 2 of these different labels have the exact same title name (Handel's Messiah and The Many Moods of Christmas.) 1945 and 1946 are listed as correct dates for the release of Christmas Hymns and Carols. 1951 was the release of Joy To The World. 1952 Christmas Hymns and Carols Vol II came out. In 1957, The first Christmas album was re-released with the tag Vol I added to the title. This is why the confusion exists of why Vol II came out 5 years before before Vol I.

I loaded my copy of the older one. Probably the same one as Anchovypurre1.

I saw on another site a date of 1957.

I'm pretty sure 1958 is NOT correct. The CD booklet of "Christmas with Robert Shaw" (which contains transfers of these tracks) list them as having been recorded in July and August of 1952. It's possible, although improbable, that they weren't released on LP immediately (RCA was still fighting the 33/45 war with Columbia; however, volume 1 of this series -- LM-1112 -- was definitely on LP by December of 1951), but LM-1711 was certainly released by December of 1954 at the absolute latest, as there are Billboard listings from that time showing this album on the best-selling charts.Incidentally, volume 1 was re-recorded in stereo in 1957, but there was never a stereo re-recording of volume 2.

The cover and label listed here for LM 1711 is the reissue. The first pressing had a different cover and the early RCA Victor label, with LONG PLAY on the bottom.
Rolorel
My version has a different cover and on the record label it says non-breakable.

I think year released 1957 or before. Copy I got has 1957 NOV written on back cover.
