Certainly not my favourite Dettmann EP but it has some interesting cuts. Range sounds a bit like his 'mellow' tracks on the self-titled debut album, think of Motive but with less drive and a more eerie feel to it. The track evokes a feeling of feeling either in complete lonely space or in a giant underground ice cave. Iso is a slamming (as far as Dettmann's reduced kicks can be called slamming) slowly crawling churner. It's nothing to write home about but a solid number.Then, in my mind, comes the highlight. Push is a melancholic warped burst of emotion. In the middle of all this alien-sounding cold rattling techno comes a distorted vocalsample (when was the last time you heard Dettmann use a vocal sample on one of his original tracks other than on Landscape?) that makes you long for more, hear the voice's story about how it got trapped in this giant fucking ice cave under the earth. Also interesting structure-wise. Perfectly placed accentuating drums, swirling blizzard-whitenoise loopings on the side and a sudden 'halt' during its closure.Allies was already played by Ben Klock in his Fabric 66 Mix and hailed by many people, at first it's just another 'off key' high squeeking sounds, number (like Quicksand or Rerun). BUT it gets interesting after 3 minutes when another voice-sounding melody comes in from far away, singing from the days that used to be warmer, friendlier, with sunshine and life on the surface. A nice closing track.The standout track is clearly Push, Range is a nice atmospheric piece, Allies good too and Iso leaves me kind of neutral.
