I recently bought this since I love "Plagiarism" and thought this would be something to get. Well, the remixes are the kind of house music that just make me hate life! Dave Aude's Heavenly Vocal holds exactly zero surprises as it plows through house music cliche furrows with a thudding inevitability. Even worse is Dave's Rubber Dub, which should count as a crime upon hearing it because 8:07 of your life has been stolen and will never be returned! On this mix Dave manages to use every house music technique that I despise in one mix; an endlessly looped rhythm track with no melody whatsoever for up to a minute, less than a second of vocal samples utilized as the sole vocal content throughout the mix. I could play this mix and it would be a tarnished example of everything that makes me hate house music. The B-side is an annoying sample-a-delic cut-up track that gives this listener nothing. The single star this disc receives is for the genius who decided to add the brilliant black & white music video on the disc as an enhanced session. In it, Russell is the operator of a ferris wheel in a dilapidated circus midway that is the afterlife. Dead souls come and queue up for a ride on the wheel. Russell sings the song while the wheel takes the dead into the clouds, where they ascend into heaven at the apex, where the clouds part at the wheel's full height. Ron is trying to get onto the wheel by breaking into the park and keeps missing the queue. Eventually he alone is left and he walks up to the wheel and hands Russell his ticket, marked #666. As the wheel ascends Ron cowers in the bucket and is denied heaven only to be lowered to the ground as he walks off in a huff. Brilliant.http://postpunkmonk.wordpress.comFor more ruminations on the Fresh New Sound Of Yesterday
