'Metropolis' was released in August 96. The track was one of the biggest cuts responsible for darking out 96/97. 'Metropolis' stunned the Drum n Bass world, becoming an anthem at the Metalheadz Sunday sessions at the Blue Note and was the labels biggest seller. "When I gave it to Goldie he was like 'What's going on?' He kept going round to people, playing them the DAT and saying 'You'll never gonna guess who this is' and most people were guessing, everyone but me. I think it was a shock to people.'Metropolis' was 96's most predatory track "Lorna Harris who sung for Goldie described the bassline as this thing that's chasing you (The B-Line noises). It's very into the Future .'Metropolis' went on to win the 1996/97 Muzik Award for best Drum n Bass tune.

Was not going to comment on this, as most people should know what this tune brought to the table. It's one of those defining moment tracks, when I first heard it I just listened it. It was fresh then and still is now! Total game changer, producers had to step after Adam released this... an absolute masterpiece if I say so myself.
ME
This tune makes me feel sad, can't help hearing Hyper D over this.

I dont think there is a mastering issue with this track ?!? .... Anyway FIRST ever drop was on Grooverider's show with Adam F in the studio at the time. You could tell that Rider was gobsmacked when Adam pulled the metal plate out of the bag for him to showcase. After the damage was done - Adam says "all you wanna know is that this is gonna change the game at Metalheadz sunday sessions" or something to that effect. And my gosh it did - a game changing beast which is beded down as one of the finest tracks to grace the mighty MHDZ label, and as such draws on the original elements of the Reinforced Records transistion in to the headz sound we all love today. And oh yeah the mastering - put it this way with the panels that Adam was working on ANY engineer would of had his work cut out on that day. Peace long live Metalheadz????????????

Metropolis is a masterpiece. My favorite d'n'b tune OF ALL TIME. I never, ever get bored of this tune. Thank you Adam F and thank you Metalheadz.

is it just me or is the mastering on this really poor?!?!?***ducks and hides....****

Yeah, it is totally clipressed. Sounds terrible. *10 word min*

Massive track and an undeniable classic, still sounds very unique to this day.
Cesar
futuristically ominous tune.

This tune is massive. Period. We went raving shortly after it was released and it was played by all the DJs at least once in their sets. Mother Earth should not be overlooked, it is the antithesis to Metropolis utilising a voice mail message left by Goldie, indicating his doubt that Adam would finish the tunes on time. He did and the rest is history. Another piece of semi useless information: the tune was released during the summer of 1996. Upon hearing Metropolis for the first time DJ Hype apparently said, "God, is it winter already?" Ha,ha!

THE biggest tune of 1996 without doubt! "Metropolis" rocked the place till the roofs came tumbling down and the walls exploded. This sounded like nothing else at the time, very futuristic and of course it was brought to us by Goldie's Metalheadz label. The production is sublime, it's one of the biggest sounding tunes I've ever heard and when played out at a club it made people absolutely crazy out of their minds. The drop after the spooky intro is just mindbendingly good, kicks like a hardcore metal mule on steroids. The beats are brilliant, the bass is HUGE and the whole feel of it is so utterly precise and evil sounding - this tune has few equals in drum&bass. Truly legendary stuff which hasn't aged a day since it came out, would still kick major ass today. One of my all time favorite tunes. Adam F really delivered this time! Big up!
