A brief but intense EP, 5 tracks about 19’ listening.Synthetic bass music, dry, powerful and extra-cut.A surprising balance between mechanical beats and dubby grooves recalling wide panoramas with a lonely mood and coal mining operations where each repetition is slightly mutating and constantly evolving.The briefness of this release (and of each track indeed) is quite relevant to define this balance: Enkephalin’s (de)constructions are not easy to describe though they’re not centered on weirdness neither are baroque in their inventive. They’re razor-sharp, always finely produced and arranged, a perfect condensed dose of ideas on sounds, rhythm and climax.Touches of gentleness from the electronica world, echoes of the 90’s - a sort of Black Dog trapped in a dubstep zone, simple melodies sometimes evoking an undefinable middle-eastern taste, everything pressurized and squeezed under tension by cutting-edge pneumatic sounds and complex beating.At the opening, Cloud Surfer displays dubby reverbs and soon it becomes a stomp, skillfully paused in the middle, broaden out with strings and outer sounds.Stratophony is synthetic, filtered dubstep, sidereal and falling sounds dealing with acid electric burst of rhythm, up to a sense of funkyness. Astral Comedy carries the importance of a central track and is a perfect synthesis of the whole approach: a tender and hypnotic melody in the opening is intertwined with vibrating basslines shaping a reflective and somehow intimate moment.The following track Climatic Behaviours (note the edgeness of the title) is an alternate movement of heavy-delivered martial beats and suspended narrative moods and it finally brings you to jump on its slow-doubled beats.The closing Stellar is a perfect outro: symphonic layers and minimal cuts on an extra-slow buried hip-hop beat, you really wonder which would be the perfect rap to slam in.This semi-debut release is very likely a first meteorite full of precious compounds to be expanded and triggered in the future, it’s like the perception of time on a solitary beach caught an instant before and immediately after a tornado, it’s that lightning between bodies that is sometimes perceivable by fronting a wall of sound.
