It is not correct to say this had never been previously released in the UK. “Thinking of You” was the B side to “Lost in Music” released 5 years earlier in 1979.

Yes suppose I should said it had never been an a-side in the UK before 1984.

Pretty sure that this was never released as a single (in the UK) the date of 1979 just relates to its original release on the album.It only became a single in Britain after being played off the album in the jazz-funk clubs of London and South-East England throughout 1983 (I remember hearing it dropped all the time that year)and building up such a head of steam that the record company eventually in 1984 put it out as a single and the rest is history. The catalogue number backs this up.
