I find it unfortunate "Embrace Me" is so polarising (or just plain disliked?) because I honestly believe Ron and Benno struck EDM gold on this release. I can see why people might not like it: it's not 'true' trance by any means and it uses a male vocalist suited for indie as much as dance music, but this is one of the most solid singles in my collection and it's a real experience for someone like myself who has a taste for every single style that crept into these mixes. The original is a beautiful synth pop production with great synths reminiscent of Tears for Fears' "Pale Shelter" and Ron's voice sounding smoother than ever. The Heart-Shaped Reconstruction keeps the same vibe but goes forward a decade and brings in some oldschool house sounds (that rising part in the breakdown, you'll know what I mean) alongside the most lo-fi rock styled beats you'll hear in the trance scene for a while. The H!Vtlg3 and Rank 1 mixes are where things pick up and you get the expected tech trance elements. My preference of the single, alongside the original, is the Rank 1 remix which builds and builds with layered vocal filtering, atmospheric background effects and those typically housey beats Benno's known for these days. In comes the serene breakdown with Ron singing "Embraaaace Me" until it starts skipping and in come more mindbending techno effects than anything I've heard in any 'true' techno production. To hell with trueness, this really is just a great song and a great single. I feel like an idiot for delaying the purchase because of the ratings on here.
