This comment applies only to the A side of "Liquidator" by Harry J. All Stars.I have two copies, different versions. The first matches exactly with the version described as (7", 4P), Harry J Records, release code r3507096. The stamped matrix number is TMX+134, as per release profile. It has a green label as per the accompanying image. The song is an instrumental solo featuring an organ melody with rhythm accompaniment. On this copy, the organ tone is significantly distorted by severe intermittency. On initial examination with a simple magnifier, distinctive circular patterning bands can be seen. Closer examination shows that these are caused by the inner/outer groove touching, suggesting that the signal to the cutting stylus was excessive. I propose that this is the source of the distortion. My second copy most closely aligns with the version described as (7", 45 RPM, Single, Large Centre), Harry J. Records, release code R536523. It has a white label as per the profile and image. The stamped matrix number is TR 675 A//1 4, which differs from that cited in the profile (TR675 A// 1115). On this copy the organ tone is clear throughout. On examination, there are no patterning bands, and the inner/outer groove is clearly separated across the whole record. From these observations I suggest that:(1) On my first copy, version r3507096, the bass rhythm in the cutting mix is of excessive volume, causing adjacent grooves to interfere and distort the organ tone.(2) On my second copy, version resembling r536523, the signal of the cutting mix has been reduced in volume, thus eliminating the distortion.(3) Possibly, then, there are two generic versions, distinguished by the use of matrix stamps TMX+314 and TR675 (etc). This would require further information to confirm.
