why is the vinyl version 100% different ? confused .

The Yusef Lateef track is obviously an edit. The original is only two minutes long and, with a release year of 1961, predates the serious deep house beats of this version by a few decades. The editors are uncredited, through with the stylistic similarity to the Philomena edits, you can suspect some, if not all of the compilors behind this. It's also exclusive to the vinyl edition. The CD does not feature the full version. This makes "Minus" the only track on this compilation in its original version. Interestingly it's also the only track pressed on 45 rpm (a bit confusing after the 33 rpm of "Atomit" on the same side). This seems to be an hommage to the original Tresor recording of "Internal Empire" which also was pressed on 45 rpm and allowed you to play the super fast original (143 bpm) as a chilly, hypnotic downtempo track if you switched to 33. Anyway, a fantatic compilation! Richie Hawtin's edit of "Motor Bass Gets Phunked Up" is a serious funk monster on eye level with his best classic Plastikman releases. And the edit of "The Three Faces of Balal" is a must have for all Innervisions/Philomena junkies. Too bad they didn't squash a few more tracks from the CD version on the vinyls. With a total running time of about 30 minutes, there certainly was some room left for that.

I agree with Mark_Anthony's review. Most of the material is well over average and gets excellent treatment in this release. Pressing is very good and sonics are excellent. Side C is very good - Well worth the buy just for this track. I wish Âme et al. had released the entire CD compilation on vinyl.

I:Cube – Acid Beatless (A Critical Mass Edit) is essentially the same track as Ame - Rej except that the melody was modified. The underlying kick and bass are unchanged. Listen closely and you'll realize how similar these 2 tracks are. The rest of this vinyl comp, there's nothing bad on it. I think its underrated. You get Robert Hood's classic Minus track, a quality Hawtin remix, Atomit which is one of Mika Viano's best ever, and even that obsure Yusef track is quality. This release should not be selling for 10 dollars like I see at the time of posting this. Its much better than that.
