terrible sound on this re-isse (painful high-freq / mp3-type sound. & unbalanced sound spectrum) -- again mastered by dave blackman - will have to avoid this name and PRESSURE SOUNDS too, just bought too many reissues by them recently which were really not acceptable.

re: erald = true dat, i don't know the 1976 pressing - but by now i have studied the sound-signature of all the recent DAVE BLACKMAN mastered PRESSURE SOUNDS reissues pretty well - and i can really recognise it after just few seconds of listening --- and all i can say is that i really don't like it - maybe it's just my ears/my brain that is hearing it, oh well, i am willing to accept it :-)

While PS produce too many dull reissues to my taste too (vinyl sources too worn and needing extreme digital scrubbing?), I must disagree with klimek's opinion. This is one of their better reissues (and a rarity too!), similar in sound to the unexpectedly fresh sounding DUB I cd. Just like that restored as a mono album bringing even worn vinyl into sharper focus (in the past PS issued a large number of reissues sounding fuzzy due to missing this simple trick to cancel out some unwanted wear/pressing problems).Only one track suffers from a conspicuous treble boost, which may very well be because that track was brighter to begin with. (Original reggae albums are usually a roller coaster ride with stuff pieced together from various sessions.) I can state all this with some certainty being a user of audiophile grade audio equipment (not to common among reggae aficionados) and meticulously controlled room acoustics. Bad mastering jobs are immediately apparent thanks to ultra linear floor standing monitor speakers (2x12" bass drivers and midrange and treble drivers coaxially positioned for instant blending which enables close-up, critical listening). This is a good if not great reissue from PS.People who were not around to buy the original pressings probably have a very warped notion of how 70s reggae sounded. Many reissues contain but a faint shadow of the sparkle and punch in the original JA or UK cuttings. Every transient and all frequencies above, say, 6 kHz wiped out in order to make the reissues sound "CD era" free from crackle. I'd take a lightly worn vinyl original any day, but unfortunately that's mighty expensive!
