I must admit that I'm really impressed with the sound quality of this release. I was not expecting much, but I've been really surprised at how good this sounds. I highly recommend this at its retail price, which looks to be about $21 in the US.

While this lacks the awesome sleeve of the Underground Impresarios pressing, the sound on this is fantastic and the Deviants music certainly suits mono. As in the comments, this is most probably just a fold-down mix of the stereo and I couldn't hear any significant differences in the mix other than it being in mono obviously. The pressing quality is significantly better that the UI pressing. I've have 3 UI pressings pass through my hands over the years and all have suffered from surface noise and a generally flat sound. This Decca mono pressing really brings the music to life and makes you realise what a ground-breakingly powerful punk psychedelicLP this was. Musically this LP divides opinion, and it was dismissed as amateurish at the time, even by John Peel who did the sleeve notes. Maybe only with hindsight can this LP really be appreciated for what it is, a truly underground statement, pushing the boundaries both in subject matter and musically and pre-empting punk both musically and in attitude, while still fitting perfectly in with the UK psychedelic underground jigsaw at the time. They were regulars at the U-FO club and provided an anarchistic edge to a scene that could have been a bit sleepy and solipsistic without them. It was also produced, marketed and distributed entirely outside of the mainstream networks, very uncommon at the time when the music business was controlled almost exclusivelty by a few major labels, radio stations, shop chains and music weeklies. Time has only improved this LP. It has slowly gained recognition for the truly ground-breaking statement it is on every level. This mono Decca pressing is the only one I play, though I still hang on to a poster sleeve from a trashed UI pressing to look at when the beautifully ugly music blasts out the speakers.

I've seen 2 versions of the poster sleeve, one printed in light blue on one side, the other printed in brown. Both appear to be original '68 items.
crazy mashine
The original vinyl release was a fold up cover, enclosing the disc into the folds.
Pipet
Can anyone confirm if this is a fold down mono mix?
Ffan
I think it probably is just a fold down mix. I couldn't hear any significant differences other than sound quality and pressing is noticeably better than the Underground Imps press.
Ndav
No, i mean the audio mix, not the cover. I own a copy as well, and I wanted to know if the music was mixed separately for mono in relation to the Decca/London stereo versions. I know the cover is a fold out.
Zeus Wooden
I know the original UK pressing by Underground Impresarios, IMP 1, is a fold out. I own a copy. I'm not sure if any other pressings are fold downs.
