Disc 2 is the progenitor of Northern Exposure series...qualiy tunes & superb mixing from a true master!

The opening 3 tracks on disc 2 are simply superb, the mix is top notch, I especially like the calling your name remix and the build of the beat into the 3rd track. This set me on my path into trance music.

Jeez, there are some proper geeks reviewing and having a go at this mix. Try and remember that it isn't a live set and tracks can be played in a different order and mixed differently than if he was playing the tracks to a club full of dancing people where you react to the vibe coming from the floor. In my humble opinion this was the best commercially available DJ mix in 1995. Of course a lot of it sounds dated now but it was of it's time and showed that house, progressive and trance were linked and this mix benefits from Digweed finding the links between tracks, not their differences. I used to love 'No Other Love' by Blue Amazon and Digweed plays the whole thing. I reckon certain mixes if not the whole thing was mixed digitally, the Angel Moraes mix into BA no other love certainly was as the intros and outros have been extended. I will always reference this mix as an influence on my tastes and DJing.

John Digweed has been using a sampler and delay since 1992.

Yeah this it. One of the great mixes of all time. I know some will bag it for ending with Robert Miles - children , but this came out 2-3 years before that track went top 10! Even Moby was still a drug fuelled nobody. I can't remember if it was recorded from a vinyl mix or whether it was one of the very early digital studio mixes but you gotta cut it some slack. I think it still sounds incredible a great selection of tunes a little overdone with the stereo flanger in some of the transitions but an absolute essential mix for the lovers.

There is really an odd lowering of volume or EQ drop during track 2-8 Future Funk by Roland Klinkenberg. Does anyone else notice that or make mention ? Also Disc 1 was recorded at a way lower volume than Discs 2 and 3.

listening to mine now. Yes I hear the volume drop on my disc also.
Sorryyy
This compilation has not aged over time; the music is still as fresh today as it was when released....it is one of the few compilations that i still get loads of pleasure from, and it probably signals the beginnings of the progressive house era, with tastes of trance throughout...The only drawback is that it ends with the commerical house tune Robert Miles' Children, aside from this, the mixing and tunes frequently border on the orgasmic...this is a must have for anyone's progressive house CD collection!

Robert Miles' Children was originally licensed to Platipus records in the UK.

This package is a lot more trancey/progressive than the first and revered Renaissance collection, but is no less the poorer for that. Mixed exclusively by John Digweed this compilation contains many tracks that I would happily buy if they crossed my path to this day. Highlights include listening to the mixes from the dubby Floppy Sounds into the first breezy Judy Cheeks track of the compilation, and Moby's Into The Blue dropping to One Earth Beat on disc1. My particular favourite section is on disc three from Underground Sound Of Lisbon thru to Quiver. There are many other highlights. I gratefully received this as a xmas present in 1995 and it dominated my personal soundtrack for a long time. It still sounds great now.

Viewing the information about the Renaissance Mix collection, I found that while the first volume is totally hailed, surprisingly the second one has not been reviewed by anybody (yet). Ok, what do I have to say ? Well... I guess is a mix collection, as solid as the first one, but a lot less popular and "classic". However, this CD collection is really good and sounds much more "actual" than the first volume. And yes, it has a lot more soul than most of the progressive trance compilation these days, that's for sure.
