This album is as stunning dark and dramatic as anything that ever gave you chills ... matter of fact, if anything ever was giving you chills, this album was probably playing in the background.Otis has a variety of musical styles that blend, ebb, and flow in and out of each other ... encompassing blues and folk, though there are some guitar riffs that are simply blazing ... as heard on “Walk On Water,” that could certainly go toe to toe with anything heard on any rock album out there. Otis plays with a determination that is seldom found in any genre, his licks are clean and crisp, and though the songs are contemporary, they are as haunting and dusty as anything laid down by the Delta boys seventy years ago ... matter of fact, I’ll go so far as to say that Otis, with current technology, has finally gotten it right. The man is as comfortable with the guitar as he is with a banjo, and he doesn’t hold back for one single moment, not even when the slide guitar is front and center. Unlike most blues, these songs are thick and richly textured, with ghost like voices harmonizing from deeply in the background. He plays every song as if it was the only song he knew, and while you will find a grouping of numbers that suite your musical tastes better than others, this is a righteous blues album that can be compared to nothing else.If you don’t have this album, don’t go running for the train, because you’ve already missed it.Review by Jenell Kesler
