This album truly is remarkable and defining. It is Bryn Jones during the height of his music. The music is more focused, less glitchy and significantly more laid back. Ambient and a tribal hypnotic middle eastern trance journey, minimal, yet powerful. The vocals, which can be far and few, often repetitive, never lose focus, never become the focus and never losing sight of the cause.

Excellent, mid-nineties Staalplaat-era Muslimgauze. The beats are harsh, hypnotic, sleepy, sweaty, and juxtaposed against droning ambience. There is less dub influence in this one (cf. Syrinjia), and a more definitely "Arabic" feel (although without so many vocal samples, as in Baghdad or similar albums). The song structures, too, are a bit more "traditional" (if that's really a word that can be used here) in that they don't have that "stop and then start" jarring feel that some of the later works have. Blue Mosque really feels like a transition piece from the furiousness of the early-nineties albums on Extreme (United States of Islam, Zul'm, etc.) and Jones's final works.Basically, if somebody were interested in Muslimgauze, this is the album I would let them borrow. There really is nothing quite like Muslimgauze, and if you don't like this one, you probably won't like any of them.
