A LOT OF FOLKS would agree - Sarah Shannon has a transcendent voice in her well chosen range. So why, after leaving Velocity Girl can't she find a steady band and make a "real" (full length) record. Could it be dissidence about direction? Was the 1997 Geoff Turner produced Starry Eyes a borrowed band? Recorded in the same studios as the STARRY EYES ep - WGNS - Geoff pulls double duty this time helping out on guitar (sturdy non-expressive tele-strum) but it's just not enough to dismiss this as anything other than mediocre lightweight indie pop. "Wheel In A Wheel" sounds like early VG and is clearly the best song on the ep. One in five is bad. Since Sarah wrote all the songs on this record this may not be the best of signs. "Gone" the last song on this 12 minute raisin doesn't quite cut it for me with the whistler - I mean shit, I think she needs better friends than that - like maybe Archie Moore or Jim Spellman.
