Some say that this is either a prog metal or nu metal album. I can't see what's the problem people have on labeling this as both. Mudvayne have always played a more complex sort of music, however, their sound is modern, with breakdowns and those good nu metal bouncing parts. This tends to highlight their nu metal influences.
Umge
Fine musicians and there was much potential here... but alas!

I was really surprised when i spotted this at a local shop, so i grabbed it. The album sounds absolutely amazing! Blown away by MOV so far.

I'm not really happy with the vinyl release. They just took the CD and put it on vinyl. Really love this album and can't get enough of it. Of course the whole album is like "one big track", each song playing in one another. But the production company just cut of after "Death Blooms" instead of tuning down volume or something because it usually goes into "Golden Ratio" intro like. It really destroys listening to the album.

I second that, how is the audio compared to the CD? less compressed/more natural sounding?
Madi
How's the audio quality, sound better or the same? .

My copy is missing the label on side one. Anyone else?
Sirara
No, I did not have any issues with missing labels.

MOV did it again! If you love this album, then you need to get a copy of this on vinyl! It is the best version your ears will ever hear.

Fucking goddamn finally coming to vinyl in February 2017 thanks to Music On Vinyl. The End Of All Things To Come next..

Petition to get this album on vinyl, it's incredible. I'd buy it up right away, it's too bad I can't get into any of their later releases because their debut was dope.

I actually wrote to MOV 2 years ago insisting this was a wise choice for vinyl, stoked this is happening. They told me the source are studio masters 24 bit / 192khz. Not sure if that contains the same amount of dynamic compression, but it is a hi-res source and will sound different to CD.

It's coming out 02/10/2017 - http://www.musiconvinyl.com/catalog/mudvayne/ld-50#.WGUjdWczXIU Music on Vinyl releases are quality all around, this should be an awesome release!
Shak
Is it official? I think it's a bootleg release.

I have owned this album for almost a year and a couple of months now, i have it in my iTunes Libary and on my iPod - but it just never gets listened too. When i do listen to it, i barely get half way through it.That is the thing with Mudvayne, for me personally, is that you can only take their music in small doses - so the idea of listening to an album by them goes right out the window. I find this problem with alot of Nu-Metal bands, now stereotypically being born in '94, making me 15 now i should like this Nu-Metal scene as i "grew up with it". When really to be honest i dont like it all that much - i like Linkin Park and Deftones but thats it. I do like Mudvayne but i find that they just seem to be repetitive. I brought this album near enough completely blind, took a chance with it. I hadn't listened to the album at all before, and the only track i knew on it was Dig. And it was that track that made me buy the release, because i had that on my iPod for around a month before buying the album and absolutely loved it.I find this album hard to get through maybe because its so up and down with everything about it. Its what i would call a Bi-Polar release. And i dislike these albums, because the point of an album is to be able to listen to it all the way through, which i honestly cant do here - and i really can't put my finger on why? So yes theres the alternative of listening to the tracks individually but i dont seem to do that either, mainly because this album is near enough gapless and some of them have really slow long intros, which i cant be arsed to sit through. There are good points here, the lyric writing is pretty good in all the tracks but i just find they are not sung right - maybe its coz i have a natural dislike to harsh vocals, and i really cannot deal with them for extended periods of time. So that might be a contributing factor why i dislike this album.I was torn between a rating of 3/5 or 2/5. I resorted in the latter, 2/5, for the fact that i only really like 3 songs on this release. Thats 3 out of 17!!! Not good, but i will give them too you:*Dig*I love this song, so much i brought this album because of it. It really gets me pumped.*Cradle*Love this song too, and actually its one of my favourite Mudvayne songs, i cannot get enough of the progressive screams at the start.*Nothing To Gein*Just like the obsurity and agression of this track, as towards the end the vocals really sound exhausted like the singer has completely given his all in this track.A few other things i like about this album is its concept of drugs, i think is really cool, also its artwork and such. I also think the reason i dislike this album on a whole so much is that i came with the expectations it was going to be something else. As i said previous i cannot put my finger on why i dislike it so much.

This is not progressive metal. Dream theater is progressive metal. L.D. 50 is the best nu-metal album of all time.
Lilegha
Mudvayne were never nu-metal. This album is not nu-metal. The band and album are both progressive metal. As a progressive rock composer, this kind of misinformation makes me want to blow my brains out.

Both bands evolved for the worse and only outline the slow death of Nu Metal from it's humble beginnings in the mid-90s. Slipknot's S/T and L.D. 50 were the most raw, innovative, visceral and punishing this genre ever got, outside of earlier predecessors (e.g. Vision Of Disorder and Converge). With success they slipped into more melodic, safer nu-metal territory, eventually fading out into a sea of mediocrity like every other nu-metal band. It's that raw, gritty, angsty ferocity that made this genre only worth bothering with in the first place. I maintain seeing Slipknot live in 2000 was one of the most insane gigs I've witnessed. LD50 is a criminally underrated masterpiece and contains some of the best metal bass playing ever put to record. Lost And Found wasn't even half the record LD50 was.

*** I was referencing "lost in found " when comparing L. D. 50 to 'this album'. I'm listening to lost and found and forgot you all can't hear it...
Dishadel
I'm sorry, but unfortunately your lack of experience and really growing up with these bands is what makes your analysis of this band null. I'm 30 and remember the day L. D. 50 came out... I had it... It's a shame you can't see the progression and evolution they've gone through. Slipknot evolved as well... My generation grew up with these bands... They came into their own... L. D. 50 was very all over the place... This album is much more organized and you can tell, with the chord progressions (the guitarist actually writing more complex riffs), the lyrics have become more meaningful and their melodies have tightened up. As for listening to a 'nu-metal' album front to back... That relies solely on your opinion and/or lack of a long attention span. (I used to never be able to finish a song before changing it and jumping around all over the place). I own 3 TOOL albums, 2 APC, 4 Deftones, 5 Slipknot... Plus a bunch of other ones... I bought them on vinyl for the sole fact I enjoy listening to each album front to back. I feel bad that you are unable to do this. Cheers

Better watch it, the kids 20 now... =oO
