This is THE essential Chicane-cd. Yes, "Far from the maddening crowds" is a great cd, but it is still not comparable to this tribute to the beautiful landscapes of Ibiza. The tracklist is filled with some of the best "summer-anthems" through the history of electronic music, without sounding Café del mar- or Blank&Jones-cheesy at all. Personally, I think cd1 is the best. It starts off perfectly with the smooth sounds of "Sugar Steps" and "Eva", before Aphex Twin introduce us to his fucked-up musical mind. "Windowlicker" is definately one of his best songs, so damn uplifting! After that Chicane presents two of his own productions, first his "remix" (I can't really hear any difference between the original and his remix) of "Before Today" and then the 4x4-version of the classic "Offshore" with some lovely vocals. I can't comment every track, but I just have to mention Rabbit in the Moon's lovely "Deeper" (with no doubt their best production ever) and the remake of Jean Michel Jarre's "Oxygene Part II" which in my opinion is the best Jarre-production I've heard (even though I haven't heard that much). Anyway, the tracklist is, as I said, simply great (with one exception: the horrible Rank 1-tune) with very much variation of styles. But the sunny touch is always there. It's a perfect soundtrack for the summer! Chicane, please make more music like this!

A very late reply, but I just happened to listen to this again, and felt compelled to comment:I completely disagree on Rank 1's case. Even though it's 4-on-4 and trancey, it's still more on tune with the moods, than some other tracks here. And it's the last one of the bunch, so it's rather perfect for getting up and going after relaxing with the album. The one track that sticks out like a sore thumb to me, is definitely Jarre's Oxygene, placed right in the middle of the mix (if you count both discs). It's just so out of its genre there; spacey, otherworldly etc... It's a great track in its own right, but there's a place for everything, and Oxygene's place has to be somewhere else, than an 'Ibiza' compilation. As a chillout album, "Visions Of Ibiza" doesn't always quite hit the mark, but it is pretty much full of good music at least :).
