Blindingly good LP albeit only 6 of the 12 tracks appear on this release (4 more across 2 x 12" releases) but 2 are missing on vinyl which is a shame. That said what is here is just incredible. Sacrifice is so so good, with beautiful vocals, samurai steel breaks and thundering rolling bass. 'Steam', 'Innersense' and 'Rockers' are huge tracks full of brutal bass, crunching beats and so much love. For me the only track I don't like is 'King Of The Hustlers', but I am probably in a minority. Overall this release is pure class with a very high quality of tunes.

A brutal album. Dom briefly emerges from the shadows to lay this gem on us. Boy. Absolutely banging and unashamedly giving the middle finger to all the commercial wannabes. Sacrifice features vocals from Natalie Duncan and really sets out the stall with Steam and Rockers both pumping tracks. Production is top notch as you would expect from Dom, and on the first couple of listens as deep, if not deeper than Chronology on Moving Shadow which I think is right up there with his best releases. Plate 3.....wow. What a start. Turn it up. Louder. Dom has an uncanny knack of being able to take you over to the darkside, but still keep you interested. Always been one of his strengths I think. Yeah I think it's safe to say I am going to absolutely cane this album...King of the Hustlers, a New Renegade, and Innersense are all really damn good. Sampler 1 for this album is also excellent, both tracks top drawer, with Sirens Song being one of my favourites this year so far on any label. Can't recommend this release highly enough. The reason? Sometimes you listen to all kinds of different music and are influenced by all genres. For me, this is an album that points to my true north. I've always been a fan of dark D & B; songs with structure and intelligence, and this is a real nudge in the ribs to let me know why I love this music. It really is unashamedly Dom, and if you don't like it? I don't think Dom would care to be honest. He is never going to change and I love him for that.

I have always respected Dom's technical abilities, but If truth be told, I wasn't that excited for this release, never being a huge fan of his cold and dark style of writing. Metalheadz have released an incredible body of work and after 5 listens, this is hands down one of the best Drum & Bass LPs ever made, period! Each track is crafted to perfection, never becoming boring or repetitive; full of power and emotion with stunning attention to detail. Each track is spaced out so perfectly in the mix, creating a really wide series of soundscapes, crammed full of breaks that are so amazingly layered, bass drops that just keep coming and evolving and fantastically rich keys, pads and synth lines. Some of the tracks have a second drop too, just like the old days and it puts a smile on my face to hear what Dom has created. This album sounds like classic Headz material and Goldie must be so so pleased with the results. It just blows my mind and my ears.A master class of technical ability and dance floor weaponry par excellence.

The musical quality of this album is... unreal. I really wanted this album to be good. It surpassed any possible expectation. I knew it could not fail, but, now? No, honestly I am at a complete loss of words. Simply the break in "Sacrifice", will shut me up. This could very well be the best d'n'b album ever. Dom & Roland. What the hey?

Hold up! Since it is one of my absolute favorites, if not my absolute favorite. Of course it makes me happy. "Last Refuge Of A Scoundrel" is not only (year's not ended) this year's best album it might be one of the best drum'n'bass albums ever produced. In any case that I have ever heard. Dom & Roland is crushing everybody/everything. The break in "Sacrifice"? and "Steam (The Final Chapter)" it is all unreal. And the label is? Metalheadz. This album is complete. You need to like breaks though.
