No one’s heard from The Vacant Lots for some time now. It’s been rumored here and there that they were living under a bridge outside of Austin, Texas, tapping into the local power grid, relentlessly playing night and day to any passers-by who might happened to get caught in their wake of intoxicating etherial guitar washes and tribal drumming. And after my sonic beacon began blinking last week, I set out to see for myself, finding the boys not under a bridge, but tucked away non the less, burning like chemically fueled jeweled embers, playing to the moon, and blanketed by the endless Milky Way. “High and Low,” the new A Side from their limited edition 7 inch is spellbinding as it hypnotically unwinds, stretching an array of notes that settle in like the warm purr of a contented cat, where they create a wanderlust of sound that will actually caress you.The release date for this bit of waxed joy, limited to 500 copies, will be August 13th, and can be found here at Austin Psych Fest. Roger Brogan of Spectrum fame, remixed “High and Low,” leaving Brian and Jared to their own driven madness, sonically assaulting “Let Me Out.” Both tracks are boundless electronic drones filled with poetry driven lyrics that stumble you in mid step, and gently melt you into the nearest overstuffed chair.
