the pressing is excellent. super clean, flat, balanced, rich, etc. the music is wonderful as well. highly recommended album

Seems like they vary. On mine, bought new, the overall sound is good but there are a few minor clicks throughout the four sides and quite a bit of rumble audible between tracks. It's not remotely so bad that I'd send it back but I certainly wouldn't describe the pressing as excellent or super clean.

The album doesn't sound finished, many songs start good and then get lost very quickly, going nowhere. The bass player is especially terrible and ruins the vibe way too often. Sounds like musicians didn't reherse hard enough and the sound engineer was feelin' lazy.

According the the liner notes, this album was recorded in one day! So maybe you are on to something... the songs may not be fully worked out. But if that is the case, I'm even more impressed with an album that is already impressive at face value. There is a looseness to the music which I think adds to the overall feel. It is very much in the vein of Pharaoh Sanders' afro-spiritual jazz. Repetitive grooves that lay the ground work for free blowing sax solos. I disagree with blaming anything on the sound engineer. Beyond the fact that the engineer would have nothing to do with your complaint, "many songs start good and then get lost very quickly, going nowhere" I think the sound is well above average. I agree with another reviewer above, this is the best jazz release of 2016.
