released late summer of 1998, 20 years this week to be precise. This track absolutely "floored" us when any DJ would put the needle to the record. I can remember the key notes playing, the sound almost felt like it was coming from up in the air somehow. Every DJ at clubs, raves & festivals were throwing down some mix version of Universal Nation in their sets, or as some people at first were calling it "The Real Anthem."20 years later, I can honestly say the original is and always will be a masterpiece through and through and still holds up, somewhat today. For my money nothing compares to what Oliver Lieb did to the track with a rare honorable mention of a remix by Easton in 2008. Every other version from Corsten to Guy Barone pales in comparison to the Lieb, Easton and of course the original. "Proceed with visual attack formation." I've heard so many people have some strange ideas about the lyrics to that vocal clip from the 80's film The Last Starfighter. The funniest was one girl thought it said "proceed to the nearest emergency exit" She actually thought there was an emergency and was panicked. Great times, great music. M.I.K.E. where did you go? Come back to trance progressive. The renaissance is coming and you were the king.

Vintage late '90s trance. I'll admit, there are other trance tracks (acid, hard, progressive, psy) from this era that I'm fonder of, but there is no denying this is an epic, memorable tune. Ahhh, good times. :)

Here I am 20 years later, and I still get goosebumps when I listen to Universal Nation. Amazing track.
Ishnllador
for me one of the best trance track ever "universal nation"
Yadon
3 completely different styles of trance here, and all good in their own right, but the corsten remix is my fave.It has high energy, a long anthemic breakdown and is a full on dancefloor smash. Not many remixes outdo originals but the corsten mix is really quite special
Yellow Judge
the Corsten remix nearly took the top spot for me and was almost going to be another sign of sheer genius by Corsten. However IMHO the breakdown is where the track loses me when the notes following the breakdown are off key and they kind of warp the feeling the first 3 to 4 minutes gives the listener.

paul oakenfold played it at Home sydney 17 01 1999 on his essential mix world tour .towards the end of the set i think tomcraft followd it .. oakey all the way !

I wonder why the Universal Nation DJ Montana remix was never released oficially, it's really good. Only heard it on Tiesto Live @ Spacemountain II Mission Paris (16-04-2005)
Scream_I LOVE YOU
Oliver Lieb transfoms a very commercial and cheesy trance 'anthem' into an absolute bomb. It does sound quite dated now, but is still a top tune.

It was the 14th of August 1999...Massive outdoor festival @ Zuiderpark, Rotterdam... Tiësto behind the wheels of steel on a stage that was rising up to a sunny sky... It was on that magic moment that I first heared Universal Nation... Best...track...ever!
Fenrinos
Robotic voice sampled from 80's move "The Last Starfighter"...

Universal Nation was indeed one of the most memorable tracks ever in the trance scene and even further... MIKE did a nice masterpiece, and the tune is still fresh in everybody's memory. The amount of remixes afterwards even boosted the track. Now 10 years later, Banshee/Bonzai is holding a contest where you can remix of their classic tracks. Universal Nation is one of them, I'm curious what people will do with a 2008 version.

Absolutely brilliant record in nowadays, too! Push's remix is pure trance, and the robotic voice gives you a full anthem feeling. On the flipside, Ferry's mix is awesome too, it featured on the Gatecrasher classics compilations. The only "problem" is, that is a little bit short. Worth it so much! :)

"Universal Nation" was probably the stand out track of the year 1998 for loads of people. I've always liked the deep drive that 'pushes' the melody on this epic slammer. It feels as if the artist (officially named Dirk and not Mike at that time) had something to get off his chest, a tune from the gut. And that's exactly what was the case the evening this track was produced. Dirk had a big argument with his girlfriend and in the heat of the moment when emotions got a bit too strong he took off to the studio in order to cool down and to get some things straight. A few hours later Universal Nation was all set up. The rest is history.

Universal Nation is still one of the best classic trance track and one of the best trance track in general the melodie withthat delay sounds like im in space so euforic

Of all the mixes of Universal Nation that I have heard (and I have heard most of them), I think Ferry Corsten has done the best job with it. He works the track into a smoldering frenzy, then drops the whole thing into nothingness. And then those now-notorious gated synth chords begin to drift into focus, signaling the start of one hell of a build-up into massive hand-raising, crowd screaming, room jumping goodness.
Madi
Nice enough remix from M.I.K.E. Doing a more Strange World Remix to this. Plus I nice move to take out the Wooo!(I love that but it wouldn't have worked in this version!) But what's this I see on the B side? That wouldn't be Ferry Corsten's Amazing Anthem on there would it? That said, come on Inferno This is a classic but it's from 99 and every respectable trance lover has it. So please get some new material! There are plenty good new remixers around waiting for the chance! Plastic Angel, G & M project, I suject you guys moan! hehe
