spacebreeze
Strangely titled companion piece to Vol. 1 with a similar mix of out-and-out garage punk classics, weird one-off experiments, hippy psychedelia and embryonic prog. When this album came out (along with vol. 1) it was the only way you could obtain some of these tracks, but it's far less essential now. (Vol. 3 to my mind was a different beast with a different selection of genres).Good stuff from Lollipop Shoppe, Ohio Express (in non-bubblegum mode), Blues Magoos and The Galaxies IV (Pebbles screwed up on their vol. 11 and put another Galaxies IV track on instead of this which was listed on the sleeve).... Don't Lose Your Mind is one of the very best examples of Sunset Strip garage-punk bubblegum psychedelia ever recorded.Same as vol. 1 you get a whole bunch of one-offs and oddities like the tracks by Orient Express, John Berberian, Kim Fowley and Mijal & White (the electronic experiment from 1973 I've Been You - mistitled on the abum - TWICE in TWO different ways!).Then - same thing as vol.1 - the album goes into hippy, acid rock territory on a bunch of forgettable tracks.Still - the sound quality isn't bad for the most part and the sleeve art is great. The title is still weird tho.
