PRETTY COOL STUFF not really music as much as an experiment in echo scratch, muffled noises and orchestrated clinks and clacks of household ambience that I find amusing to guess how they made this or that sound. It's hard to keep track of which song is which since they run into each other but I find "The Mechanics Of Belief" - whoever they are - one of those records with little or no info about the group - an entirely pleasant spin. They do use guitar and drums on occasion in a most blurred way as on "Assault with a Brick and a Chair," as closer inspection will reveal even a violin is bowed (albeit sour noted) which breaks down finally from all the constraint into a symphony of chaos. Side two "Stack o' Lee" sounds like - they recorded outside without a windshield - someone ruffling through a plastic bag filled with record receipts. There's the familiar sound of foam forming on the ground on "Piss Take" then the album continues on in a more industrial drone manner the rest of the way....
