Side 1 sounds awful, but the remaining three sides are completely fine.
Shakanos
My copy has the labels backwards on disc 2. Sounds incredible!
Kajishakar
This pressing sounds PERFECT. I just got this at the record store, so I am assuming they printed some new copies?... the outer sleeve still says 2012. Either way it sounds amazing.
Kendis
Outstanding Sound on this Peacville Pressing VILELP-78 from 2012 ! Top Quality allover ! Recommended

The second concept album has, as far as I can recall, all their songs in minor key. So it’s a sad album, but also very powerful. A lot of stuff is going on with hard/soft parts. The opening track is magnificent, starting off with a sliding electric guitar which explodes in everything throught the song, but never straying too far off the original idea.It also has a chilled-down, clean part that is very good. “Godhead’s Lament” has one of the best solos in any Opeth song, and is also very heavy. The cleans are great as we’ve been accustomed to, and the breakdown bits are beautiful. The next song is “Benighted”, which is an acoustic song about letting go and surrender to the sleep. “Moonlapse vertigo” is one of my all time favorite tracks. The way the mix cleans and harsh vocals are super! Following that, “Face Of Melinda” is a more calm track, with a lot of double vocals going on.”Serenity Painted Death” also has some great solos, and is very melodic. The closing track, “White Cluster”, has some high-pitched vocals from Mikael in it. It was the first time he did this, and it works out quite well. Not his best, but ok. I’m not particularly a fan of this track, but it has great potential of live sessions.

This version just sounds horrible. Don't buy this if you need to actually listen to the music.

Sounds pretty good for a picture disc, nothing extraordinary though. The 5.1 mix from a few years ago is my go to version but is worth it for the artwork and package.

This album starts off with The Moor, which is an incredible piece of music taking the listener on a frantic ride starting with the soft, moody intro consisting of softly plucked acoustic guitars and synths. This suddenly gives way to melodic death metal fury and eventually Mikael's sensational growls join the party. There are several moments here where the chaos fades and bright, gentle passages sporting some of the finest clean vocal moments in Opeth's earlier music take hold of the listener. A standout moment in the entire Discography. Godhead's Lament really lays on the prog right from the beginning. The clean vocals during the chorus and at points after are fantastic on this track. How often do you find yourself singing along to a death metal album? Benighted is a slow and soft 5 minute interlude of sorts. Ethereal clean vocals play with the acoustic strings building up a wall of calm atmosphere. After some time, synths reminiscent of the 70s take over the tone.Moonlapse Vertigo brings the metal back, albeit with a dash of prog apparent right from the beginning. It's Opeth after all! Groovy drums and swinging melodies make for an interesting and complex start before everything slows down and excellent clean vocals cut through for a verse, and then devolve into powerful growls. a little later on, a jazzy prog sound may surprise you, but it makes for a complex listen appealing to fans of the band. More incredible vocal melody from Mikael near the end of the song.Face Of Melinda is one of my favorite Opeth tracks, and a popular staple of their live shows. The song kicks off with a groovy acoustic bit before leading into the most sing-a-long worthy vocals in their discography, I'd argue. A very somber vocal performance accompanies moody strings and synth layering. The lyrics are fantastic, although that's nothing surprising for this band. A good halfway through, you'll be treated to some sudden downtuned electric guitar that'll knock you into your seat. This doesn't signal a shift into death metal, as the clean vocal performance trudges on, now accompanied by great riffs, interspersed with some acoustic breaks for the remainder of the track. Serenity Painted Death is a melodic death metal powerhouse cementing Still Life as perhaps the perfect merging of the band's death metal beginnings, and the softer progressive direction they were headed in. You'll find some of the heaviest damn riffs of their early career right here. Imagine a progressive Bloodbath track. The layered cleans won't halt your headbanging on this one! The acoustic prog that follows them might, though. I'd like to highlight the solo closer to the finish, immediately followed by strong cleans; what a fucking song, what a fucking record. White Cluster is the closing track, and it's a progressive death metal tune which is apparent from the first few seconds. The clean vocals here don't shine at first, but do so when the instrumentation picks up. Still, they don't match the earlier moments on the album. For the precedent set by having The Moor as an opener, this does the record no favors as a closer. It's not a bad track, but would be more appropriate as filler near the middle of the album. Benighted would have made a hell of a closer in my opinion. Final thoughts: As previously stated, Still Life represents the pinnacle of Opeth as the band that set them apart. Mikael's vocal ability and delivery as both beautiful cleans and vicious growls, the band's talent to create death metal hellscapes, and gentle soundtracks to a walk through a forest at the drop of a hat, and the infusion of progressive sounds on top of it all and writing 10+ minute tracks that somehow never drag on make this album essential listening for fans of any of their other works and newcomers as well. This album has a special place in my heart for opening me up to the possibilities of metal early on in my life. It holds up just as well 18 years after it was released, sounding as innovative and as fresh as ever. 9/10.

I had multiple copies of the first press on vinyl but sold them because the 2010 and 2012 re-issue actually sound better (better mastering and less inner groove distortion).
Ral
One of my favorites to play even though I don't listen to metal as much as I used to.
Dagdarad
This sounds better than the first press vinyl. Well done by Peaceville.
Miromice
Mine has the same Matrix numbers as board's.I also heard talk about a quick repress after the original in 2002, but can't confirm it. Someone said they first made 1000 copies, then another 2000 short time after. I don't know...
Arador
Yes, I have the same release as you. I believe it's the original issue too. Same Matrix numbers.
Micelhorav
As far as I know, this record was repressed shortly after the original release. Can anyone confirm this?I believe my copy is the original issue. It's identical to the information given above, except that the matrix numbers don't have anything listed after "damont", so they read like this:Matrix Number: DLPVILE 78 SIDE 1 DAMONTMatrix Number: DLPVILE 78 SIDE 2 DAMONTMatrix Number: DLPVILE 78 SIDE 3 DAMONTMatrix Number: DLPVILE 78 SIDE 4All are hand-etched (not stamped).
Kieel
I have nothing to back this up, but I believe there was NO repressing shortly after the original release. There is, of course, the test pressing, and then the reissue with different artwork from 2010. But, I don't believe there was a repress of the original. I don't have my copy handy, but I'll check the matrix number when I get a chance and come back with it!
